Because his mother rejected him, baby beaver Nibi grows up in an animal sanctuary.

There he shows in a video how well he can already build dams.

Baby beaver Nibi was taken into the care of Newhouse Wildlife Rescue in Chelmsford, England, about six months ago.

Animal rights activists report on their Instagram page about the little orphan they found on the side of the road after a heavy rain shower.

Although there was a beaver den nearby, his mother did not accept the cub again.

Since Nibi only weighed half a kilo, the rodent has been living in a breeding station ever since - and melts people's hearts there with his building skills.

"He will be staying here with us for the next two years, as long as they stay with their parents in the wild," the Newhouse Wildlife Rescue team wrote on social media.

Because space in the breeding station is tight, Nibi and fellow Ziibi share an enclosure.

In the beginning there were often arguments because beavers defend their territory strictly in nature.

But in the meantime, the two wild animals in the sanctuary have become friends.

So the keepers came up with the idea of giving Nibi a few hours to herself.

As soon as his conspecific has disappeared, Nibi begins to build a dam.

He diligently collects sticks in the enclosure and pushes them to the entrance of the enclosure to block it.

The animal rights activists capture the building skills of the beaver in a video that they share with the community on Instagram.

The young animal is not yet as skilled as its adult counterparts - but practice makes perfect, as is well known.

According to this motto, Nibi collects the lost sticks and also brings them to his dam.

He obviously has a lot of fun with his construction: He happily hops in the air to get new material.

Two other animals, on the other hand, urgently need help: During their swimming excursion, the beavers got stuck on a grating in the river.
