Covid-19: rejection of the complaint by the College of Physicians against Professor Perronne

A complaint against Christian Perronne denounced his “outrageous remarks contrary to any principle of dignity” and accused him of having “put patients at an unjustified risk” by his defense of hydroxychloroquine.


The complaint filed in December 2020 by the National Council of the Order of Physicians (Cnom) against Professor Christian Perronne, for remarks deemed controversial on the Covid-19 epidemic, was rejected at first instance, a-t- we learned on Monday 24 October.

The complaint of the National Council of the Order of Physicians is rejected

," ruled the disciplinary chamber of the Ile-de-France regional council, in a decision made public on Friday and of which AFP obtained a copy on Monday.

Contacted, the Cnom indicated its intention to appeal “

as soon as possible

”.

'Unwarranted risk'

Almost two years ago, the Cnom had examined a series of complaints or reports targeting doctors, for facts or comments made publicly on the coronavirus pandemic.

He had decided to seize the disciplinary chambers of first instance with complaints, or to join an ongoing complaint against six doctors, including infectious disease specialist Christian Perronne, then head of the infectious and tropical diseases department at the Raymond-Poincaré hospital in Garches (Hauts-de-Seine).

In its complaint, the Cnom denounced its "

outrageous remarks contrary to any principle of dignity

", as well as "

several rules of medical ethics

", and accused it of having "

caused an unjustified risk

" for patients by its defense of hydroxychloroquine.

Arguments swept away by the disciplinary chamber, which considered that the positions taken by Professor Perronne "

did not endanger the action taken by the public authorities

", nor promoted "

a remedy or an illusory or insufficiently tested process

" .

“Antivax Speech”

Affirming that this "

internationally recognized specialist

" was "

legitimate

" to speak on the subject and "

even had the obligation to

do so ", the body underlines that the respondent did not "

call for violence, or incite to hatred, or had an 'antivax' speech

and

that he did not “

seriously implicate colleagues

either ”.

Controversial infectious disease specialist, Christian Perronne was dismissed from his post as head of department at the end of 2020 following the filing of the Cnom complaint.
