New increase in the Smic for our Swiss neighbors.

On January 1, 2023, the minimum monthly wage for Geneva workers will reach the modest sum of 4,368 Swiss francs gross, or more than 4,400 euros.

Concretely, the hourly minimum wage in the canton of Geneva will drop from “

23.27 to 24 [Swiss] francs per hour

” at the beginning of next year, the administration specifies in

Le Figaro

.

This increase is a continuation of the efforts of the canton of Geneva which, since September 2020, has gradually raised the minimum wage in the face of ever-increasing inflation in Europe.

While the cost of living is already high in this country, the indexation of minimum wages to inflation will lead to an increase in these amounts.

Inflation is located at 3.3% in Switzerland in September 2022

”, it is specified, a level which remains less marked than in the rest of Europe.

Consequently, for working hours of 42 hours per week, minimum wage workers will earn 4,368 gross francs, or just over 4,400 euros.

An amount obviously higher than all its European neighbors, including France, despite recent reassessments of the minimum wage in France.

Still, the increase in our neighbors could benefit the 200,000 French people who currently work in Switzerland.
