The need for therapy places for children and young people is increasing, also in Freising - this was confirmed unanimously by all psychotherapists from the district of Freising who came to the round table in the book café that MdL Johannes Becher (2nd from left) had invited.

Also present was Konrad Weinzierl (l.) and MdB Erich Irlstorfer (r.), District Commissioner for the Disabled.

"It's been five to twelve for children for a long time": In the Freising district, more and more children and young people need a place in therapy.

But the supply situation is more than problematic.

Freising

– High demand, long waiting times and also no child and adolescent psychiatrist to be found far and wide: The issue of psychosocial care for affected children and adolescents in the Freising district is still an acute one.

Because while the supply atlas of the Bavarian Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KVB) speaks of an oversupply of these patients, the reality is very different, or as the Freising child psychotherapist William Mayrthaler put it: "The situation is miserable."

Long waiting times for therapy places

The need for therapy places for children and young people is constantly increasing, also in Freising - this was confirmed unanimously by all the psychotherapists who attended the round table in the Freising district at the book café, to which Johannes Becher, a member of the Greens, had invited.

Which is why the topic is burning on his nails again: "I keep hearing about enormously long waiting times for a therapy place for children." who attempted his first suicide.

Before, I couldn't imagine that something like this existed."

According to Becher, the view from the outside of the overall situation is rather difficult to assess, because according to current statistics, the district of Freising is extremely well positioned in terms of child and youth psychotherapists.

The same applies to child and adolescent psychiatrists, who are fundamentally important for a diagnosis, which often has to precede a place in therapy.

Therefore, Becher's question was basically a simple one: "Where do we actually stand now?"

No child and adolescent psychiatrists in the Freising district

Finding an answer to this was not so easy, since the overall situation is rather complex, as the deputy chairman of the KVB Dr.

Claudia Ritter-Rupp explained.

One problem: the district is not measured separately, but is part of the greater Munich area, which means that the overall supply situation is purely mathematical.

While the district of Freising is still relatively well stocked with psychotherapists for children and young people, who all work at the limit, there is a complete lack of a child and young person psychiatrist.

What was "incredibly bitter" for Ritter-Rupp was the closure of the Quitterer/Schukai practice - also because it happened "overnight" so to speak and without further care for the patients.

Here, however, Detlef Rüsch, youth social worker at the schools in Moosburg, quickly intervened: "The problem wasn't that the practice was closed, it was that it took so long!" Numerous parents and children had informed themselves about the treatment strategies of the Freising practice with four branches had complained for some time.

The good news that Ritter-Rupp brought with him: In Bavaria, 12 licenses for child and adolescent psychiatrists should ensure a better treatment network.

However, it remains to be seen whether any of them will want to settle down in Freising.

Irlstorfer: "We will scratch, bite and spit"

"What we need is a more fragmented division," said Erich Irlstorfer (CSU), member of the Bundestag, who has been dealing with this topic for some time and who is clearly losing patience.

"Now it's the children's turn, because it's just on fire!

If a psychiatrist opens in Moosach, Freising won't help."

In the direction of KVB, Irlstorfer formulated his lack of understanding that there was no psychiatrist to be found here: “We will scratch, bite and spit.

I'll tell you, the topic is starting to make me crazy, and we'll pull out all the stops to get the contract." Irlstorfer has already "prepared" something for this, which could give the whole thing a lot more "boost" - one joint elaboration for the federal committee under the motto "A region stands together", for which he would like to get his colleagues in the Bundestag Leon Eckert (Greens), Andres Mehltretter (SPD) and District Administrator Helmut Petz on board.

For Becher, every step in a better direction is right, because one thing is absolutely clear to him: "It's been five to twelve for the children for a long time."
