Due to a technical defect, a van burned out on the hard shoulder of the A99 near Vaterstetten.
Vaterstetten - A member of the volunteer fire brigade noticed a smoking van on the shoulder of the A99 motorway towards Salzburg on Tuesday evening at 5:39 p.m.
He had the presence of mind to call the emergency services and helped the uninjured driver from the Munich district out of the vehicle.
As the Hohenbrunn Police Inspectorate announced, the engine compartment of the Fiat Ducato caught fire when the emergency services arrived.
The fire not only damaged the road surface, the fire also spread to the green strip next to the road.
Total damage 68,000 euros
30 firefighters from Vaterstetten and Parsdorf-Hergolding prevented the flames from spreading further.
Traffic had to be restricted from three lanes to one for the extinguishing work, which is why a kilometer-long backlog formed.
The police suspect a technical defect as the reason for the fire.
The total loss of the van and the damaged road caused an estimated total loss of 68,000 euros.
Nobody was injured during the operation.
