The Criminal Security Branch in Lattakia arrested a number of members of a network that hacked accounts on social media, with the intention of blackmail, defamation and abuse of their owners.
The Ministry of Interior stated, in a statement that SANA received a copy of, that information was received to the aforementioned branch about the existence of a network that runs fake groups and accounts on some social media sites, with the intent of threatening their victims, publishing their photos, insulting and defaming their reputation, fabricating lies and rumors, hacking accounts and returning them with the aim of achieving great material gains.
The ministry indicated that as a result of careful follow-up and information gathering, the branch’s Anti-Information Crimes Department was able to arrest two individuals from the network, and by checking their conditions, it was found that there were 4 radio stations searching for one of them for information crimes. Last, 7 pages and 4 groups, all used for blackmail, slander and abuse.
The ministry indicated that among the groups is a group called “Mistakes Plastic Surgery” run by a woman who, after her arrest, confessed to publishing pictures, rumors, slander and fabricating lies, and to insulting the reputation of doctors, lawyers and others, and blackmailing them with large sums of money in exchange for not defaming them or exposing their privacy in partnership with hidden people, most of whom are girls, some of whom are outside Diameter.
The ministry confirmed that investigations are continuing, and investigations are underway for the missing persons to reveal the rest of those involved, and those arrested will be presented to the competent judiciary.
