The sports clubs in the Miesbach district demand in a fire letter that refugees be accommodated in containers instead of in gyms.

District – With a fire letter to Bavaria’s Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) and the state and Bundestag deputies Ilse Aigner (CSU), Alexander Radwan (CSU) and Karl Bär (Greens), the working group (Arge) Miesbacher sports clubs wants to draw attention to their difficult situation .

As reported, high energy prices are a financial threat to clubs.

In addition, the fact that two district gyms are occupied by refugees is no longer acceptable to them.

Arge chairman Max Niedermeier says: "We were promised that the gyms would be cleared so that the clubs could use them again without restrictions.

But that doesn't happen because more refugees are coming." Niedermeier calls for containers to finally be set up to house them.

“The gyms have been occupied for a long time.

It was already used in 2015 and 2016 to accommodate refugees.

This cannot and must not be permanent.” It is a fact that refugees from different countries or trouble spots will continue to find their way to Germany in the future.

Politicians must finally recognize this fact and create an appropriate infrastructure instead of resorting to gyms every time.

Niedermeier, who is also the district's integration officer, also finds that gymnasiums are inhumane accommodation: "Women and children live there, separated from other residents only by a curtain.

There is no privacy and no retreat.”

The district office is by no means to blame for this situation: "The district office is trying to accommodate the refugees differently."

There is space for more containers on Tegernseer Strasse in Hausham.

"But the government's cost commitment is still missing," complained Niedermeier.

He assumes that there is currently no corresponding item in the budget of the government of Upper Bavaria.

"That's why we have to bleed.

But we don't want to bleed anymore."

In their crisis meeting this week, the twelve members of the consortium agreed on the fire letter - and collected arguments for their point of view.

Accordingly, it damages the motor development of children and young people if their training is constantly interrupted because there are not enough gyms available.

"Precisely because children are growing, a month-long break in training throws them back considerably," explains Niedermeier, citing handball as an example.

"If the arms are suddenly much longer, the children don't even know how to use their limbs." In addition, trainers are reference persons for children and young people and have a role model function.

"The accommodation of difficult young people costs the district millions," says Niedermeier.

Instead, one should rely on the prevention work that sports clubs do - and which is also cheaper: "They all work on a voluntary basis." The commitment of the clubs is not just "fun".

It contributes significantly to the physical and character development of children and young people.

Sports clubs are also an important supplement to school sports.

Since the lessons in sports have been reduced due to the shortage of teachers, the clubs also have a compensatory role.

Niedermeier is particularly worried about the upcoming winter.

"The football clubs have voluntarily decided not to move to the hall after All Saints' Day.

They train further outside.” At the same time, this increases the energy costs of the clubs because the players then shower in the club house.

At the beginning of November, the consortium wants to meet again to formulate the fire letter.

Niedermeier doesn't assume that this will solve the problem quickly.

"But I hope for the future that containers will be kept permanently instead of resorting to gyms again and again."
