Now the church is also sticking for the climate: Jesuit Father Jörg Alt took part in the latest protest action by the group "Scientist Rebellion".

The churchman glued himself together with another protester yesterday when Karlsplatz was blocked on the road.

The blockade of Karlsplatz began at noon and lasted about an hour and a half.

In the midst of the demonstrators: Jesuit Father Jörg Alt, who stuck his hand to the road.

Alt had previously attracted attention through climate protests.

In Nuremberg, too, he had stuck himself to the road.

Religious priest calls for solidarity with activists

Most recently, the Father, together with 103 other theologians, called on the bishops to work for a change in climate policy and to show solidarity with the activists.

The Catholic priest did this himself at Karlsplatz. Jesuit Father Joe Böselmesser also took part in the blockade.

"The state government is compelling us to protest against their inadequate and wrong actions in the face of the climate catastrophe," Alt said. The world is on fire and the government is locking away the fire alarms by putting scientists in police custody.

Most recently, a group of activists was detained at police headquarters for one night after blocking Brienner Strasse (we reported).

He considers non-violent civil disobedience not only legitimate, but also necessary,

yes without alternative.

“We still have it in our hands to avoid massive refugee movements.

But we must finally start doing so, as the remaining windows of opportunity for action are closing.”

Alt, like the other protesters, will face legal consequences for his civil disobedience.

As with the protesters on Brienner Strasse, there will be charges of coercion and violations of the assembly law.

Scientist Rebellion not impressed by ads

For Alt it is already the fourth violation of the law.

In addition to his adhesive campaign in Nuremberg, he also drove the tram without a ticket.

In addition, the public prosecutor's office in Nuremberg-Fürth is investigating the Jesuit after he took expired food out of supermarket garbage containers and then distributed it.

After the arrests on Brienner Strasse, they had already shown that the members of the "Scientist Rebellion" were not impressed by the ads - even consciously accepted them.

Afterwards, Alexander Grevel from the activist group announced that the actions would definitely continue as planned until November 4th.
