This year, 72 teams are taking part in the pilgrimage on Monday, November 7th.

Now the train numbers were drawn and changes announced.

Bad Tölz – The most important but foreseeable innovation came at the end: In the train number draw for the Tölzer Leonhardifahrt, Leonhardi loader Anton Mayer announced at the end of the event within the framework of the general set of rules that the participants on the return journey from Calvary on the sometimes fast-paced section via the Marktstraße to the Mühlfeldkirche have to keep to the walking pace.

This specification is a reaction to incidents in recent years and the ever tighter safety regulations.

Marktstraße is an accident black spot

The city of Bad Tölz is the organizer of the Leonhardifahrt and has to have the pilgrimage re-approved every year with the submission of a safety concept, says Mayer.

It has been proven that the focus of the accident is Marktstraße, when some teams or trailblazers are galloping here.

"Fortunately, the accidents in the past were relatively minor, they could have ended much worse," Mayer stated.

In general, one must be aware that the course of the journey is under close observation.

"If people are injured, the public prosecutor's office is at the door.

And whether there will be another Leonhardi ride is questionable.”

Horses shouldn't get going

After long deliberations and discussions, those responsible finally agreed to order the walking pace in the absence of alternatives.

If the pilgrimage train remained closed on the route, the horses would also have less opportunity to get going.

"We ask for your understanding for this decision," Mayer finally addressed the numerous Rosserer in the hall.

New Leonhardi chargers

In addition to this change, the traditional train number draw was peppered with personnel changes: For the first time, Ingo Mehner, as the new mayor of Bad Tölz, was able to welcome the Leonhardi drivers in the Kurhaus and for the first time the new Leonhardi loaders Michael Lindmair and Anton Mayer also officially held their office.

"After a two-year Corona break, we are looking forward to a normal Leonhardi ride again this year," emphasized Mehner in his welcome address.

Faith strengthens people and holds the world together, which is particularly important at the present time.

One notices at many events that the number of visitors is declining and the desire to do something has waned among people.

Corona and the war would have changed a lot.

"I thank you all the more for driving again and being there.

Deacon George Papp, who had come to the meeting of the Leonhardi drivers on behalf of the city pastor Peter Demmelmair, continued the much-quoted "turning point in time".

"I miss the religious side of it." Life not only has a future, but also roots and traditions, which include the tradition of faith - "you should carry them with you on the journey".

Benedikt Hanus takes care of standards pioneers

Mayer's and Lindmair's part, on the other hand, concerned above all the organizational course of the festival.

The city council chose the two as loaders because they have been associated with the pilgrimage since childhood and know about its importance, according to Mayor Mehner.

Mayer was also able to announce a positive development with regard to the three standard pioneers: a reliable man had been found in Benedikt Hanus, who would take care of the occupation of the Zugspitze.

Instead of the riding horses that have been used for a long time, cold-blooded horses will be used in the future.

"The standard pioneers are after all a flagship of our Leonhardi ride," stated Mayer.

Stamperl "in moderation, not in bulk"

He also appealed to the pilgrims on the wagons to only serve the warming Schnapserl to friends and neighbors - "in moderation, not in bulk." And because you absolutely want to avoid plastic waste and corona infections, it is advisable to use edible waffle stamps .
