Did Russia manage to gain access to classified material relating to the secret talks between Britain and other countries?

According to a publication by the "Mail on Sunday", hackers who apparently operate under the auspices of President Vladimir Putin managed to penetrate Liz Truss' cell phone while she was Britain's foreign secretary, that is, until at least last summer, shortly before she was appointed prime minister.

It is not clear when the hacking began, but according to the report, the hacking was discovered during the summer months, when Terras contested for the leadership of her ruling party - the Conservative Party - following the retirement announcement of then Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

If the actual security failure is not enough, it seems that there was a cover-up on the part of the British government.

Johnson apparently decided to hide the case to avoid embarrassing Terrass, who was considered his ally, and not to harm her chances of winning.

The hack, according to the reports, included access to the secret talks held by Britain on the issue of the war in Ukraine, so it is possible that Putin was exposed to information that affected the war itself.

Also, the correspondence between Terrass and other senior officials in the British government was also revealed to the Russians.

"Her cell phone was hacked so comprehensively that they had to put it in a locked safe in a secure government facility," a source told the British newspaper.

Among other things, the hackers were exposed to critical things that Truss said about Johnson, who as mentioned is considered her ally, so it is possible that the hackers could have blackmailed her on the matter.

Also, according to the assessment of security officials in the British government, the hackers probably obtained access through her cell phone to the sensitive communications surrounding the transfer of weapons to Ukraine.

The source, who was not privy to the details, told the newspaper that the hack caused a "total drama" in the British security system.

As mentioned, Terras eventually won the race for party leadership and also formed a government with the blessing of Queen Elizabeth, but less than 50 days later she lost support among her faction in Parliament and submitted her resignation to the new king, Charles III.

Rishi Sunak, considered Johnson's bitter rival, was given the job of forming the government after becoming the sole candidate for the leadership of the Conservative Party.

The British government refused to comment on the Mail on Sunday's report.
