The IDF spokesman announced this evening (Saturday) that the selections for women for combat roles in the special units Yalam and 669 will begin in November.
The IDF first announced the move to recruit women into elite units in May of this year, against the backdrop of a petition submitted to the High Court on the matter by several young women.
According to the announcement, women designated for security service who are found in the procedures of the first order and the hundredth day as suitable for the units, will be invited to the recruitment bureaus to start the selection process.
In the first stage of the screenings, the female soldiers' compliance with the threshold conditions of the physical criteria, determined by the professional team, will be checked.
Also, the candidates for the security service will also have to go through a physical selection process, which will also include elements of physical fitness and combat fitness for the units.
The announcement also states that those designated for recruitment will go through the stages for the Yalam unit but will not pass the final screening process - they will be able to be selected for service in the units: Sky Racer, Moran, Sky Rider, Barkat Track, Tank Track or O'Ketz.
Last Thursday, Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi finally announced that from now on, women will be permanently assigned combat positions in the Armored Corps, for the first time in the IDF.
The statement of the IDF spokesperson states that the decision was made in light of professional and operational considerations and in accordance with the needs of the army, and this after the female fighters met the criteria defined in advance.
