Flamengo, one of Brazil's most popular clubs, won the third Copa Libertadores in its history on Saturday by beating national pair Athletico Paranaense 1-0 in the one-off final at Ecuador's Monumental stadium.
In the match played in the city of Guayaquil before 55,000 fans, Flamengo's goal was scored by Gabriel Barbosa in the fourth minute of addition of the first stage, after a good play by Everton Ribeiro from the right sector.
"Gabigol" dressed as a hero as in the 2019 Libertadores, when the Brazilian team came from behind with their double in the final against River Plate in the last minutes and raised the trophy again after 38 years.

With figures like David Luiz, Filipe Luis, the Uruguayan Giorgian De Arrascaeta, Everton Ribeiro and the Chilean Arturo Vidal, the "Fla" reached the final with a streak of 11 victories and a tie in 12 appearances in the competition.
"We are very happy because it is never easy to win a Cup and two in four years is spectacularly great," David Luiz told local television.

Athletico struggled to recover from Pedro Henrique's 43rd-minute dismissal, leaving the Curitiba-based team a man down and disarming experienced coach Luiz Felipe Scolari's defensive strategy.

"We have a feeling of great pride, we showed character in this final and tactical discipline, but the game was decided in one detail and we didn't achieve the goal," Athletico midfielder Fernandinho said after his team's loss.
Flamengo's triumph marks the fourth consecutive title for a Brazilian team in the Copa Libertadores --and the fifth in the last six years--, which confirms Brazil's supremacy in this tournament.
