The Observatory said in the early morning of today (30th) that Tropical Cyclone Nig will cross the central part of the South China Sea today, and then take a more northerly path to move closer to the coast of South China.

According to the current forecast path, Niger will enter within 800 kilometers of Hong Kong tonight. Depending on the development and trend of Niger, the Observatory will consider issuing the No. 1 alert signal from tonight to tomorrow (Monday, 31st) morning.

The Observatory said that a replenishment of the northeast monsoon will arrive in southern China at the beginning of this week. Under the combined influence of the Niger and the northeast monsoon, the winds in Hong Kong are quite strong from the beginning to the middle of this week, with strong winds blowing offshore, and the high winds in the middle of the week may reach gale force winds. To remind the public that people doing outdoor work, water sports or hiking should pay attention to weather changes.

At 8:00 pm on Saturday, Tropical Cyclone Nigg was a severe tropical storm about 1,110 kilometers southeast of Hong Kong.

Forecast to intensify into a typhoon Monday night

The Observatory's tropical cyclone location and forecast track map show that Severe Tropical Storm Nig gathered about 1,110 kilometers southeast of Hong Kong at 8 p.m. on Saturday (29th), with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90 kilometers per hour near the center, and has crossed Manila, the Philippines. South, into the middle of the China Sea, is gradually strengthening.

According to the forecast path map, Nigge will enter the territory of 800 kilometers at 8 p.m. tonight, with a maximum sustained wind speed of 110 kilometers per hour near the center, close to the upper limit of severe tropical storms (117 kilometers per hour).

The Observatory predicts that Nigge will turn north at this location and move to the north. It will intensify into a typhoon when it approaches about 600 kilometers south-southeast of Hong Kong at 8 p.m. on Monday, with a maximum sustained wind speed of 120 kilometers per hour near the center.

Nig then continued to move northwards, "breaking through" Hong Kong's 400-kilometer defense line on Tuesday (November 1) afternoon, but it would weaken slightly to a severe tropical storm, with the highest sustained wind speed near the center dropping back to 110 kilometers per hour.

It is forecast to pass 200km south of Hong Kong on Wednesday night

As for the subsequent development, the Observatory predicts that Nigge will turn to the northwest at about 380 kilometers south-southeast of Hong Kong on Tuesday night, and move closer to Hong Kong. It will pass about 200 kilometers due to the south of Hong Kong at 8 p.m. on Wednesday. At 90 kilometers per hour, it was still a severe tropical storm; it then moved westward, gradually moving away from Hong Kong and weakened into a tropical storm, moving to about 300 kilometers southwest of Hong Kong at 8 p.m. on Thursday.

The forecasts of the official meteorological agencies agree

Looking at the Central Meteorological Observatory of the Mainland, the Central Meteorological Administration of Taiwan, the Japan Meteorological Administration, the Korea Meteorological Administration and the Macao Meteorological Bureau, the predicted movement path of Niger is quite consistent with that of the Hong Kong Observatory.

The Central Meteorological Observatory pointed out that at 5 p.m. today, Niger was still located in the south of Luzon Island, about 60 kilometers southeast of Manila, the Philippines, with a radius of 130 to 200 kilometers for the seventh-level wind circle and 40 kilometers for the tenth-level wind circle.

From 8 p.m. Saturday to 8 p.m. today, under the combined influence of the typhoon and cold air, the winds in the Taiwan Strait, Bashi Strait, the eastern South China Sea, the eastern seas in the northwestern and central and western regions of the South China Sea, and the waters near Huangyan Island were 8-9. Gusts 10 to 11.

Taiwan's Central Meteorological Administration's forecast on Saturday night showed that the wind radius of Nige's Category 7 storm will expand as it intensifies, remaining at 150 kilometers until 8 p.m. tonight, but expanding to 200 kilometers tomorrow night and 220 kilometers thereafter.

As a result, Ronig passed 200 kilometers south of Hong Kong, posing a threat to Hong Kong.

Macau will also consider issuing Typhoon Signal No. 1 today

The Macao Meteorological Bureau also said on Saturday afternoon that Tropical Cyclone Niger is expected to enter the South China Sea today, and then turn northward toward the South China coast. It will enter Macao within 800 kilometers on Sunday afternoon, and the No. 1 typhoon will be considered at that time.

However, there are still uncertainties in its subsequent path and intensity. Due to the combined influence of the northeast monsoon and Niger, it is expected that the winds in Macau will strengthen from the beginning to the middle of next week, with occasional showers.

The Observatory's nine-day weather forecast shows that due to the influence of Niger, the weather has deteriorated since Tuesday, with a few showers and sunny days.

The northeast monsoon is "blessed" by Niger, with strong winds blowing in the middle and highlands this week

The Observatory said that the dry northeast monsoon will continue to bring fine weather to southern China today, while a replenishment of the northeast monsoon will arrive in southern China early this week.

Affected by the combined influence of Niger and the northeast monsoon, the coastal areas were windy at the beginning to the middle of the week. This Tuesday (November 1) was mostly cloudy, with a few showers, swells in the sea, and a fresh breeze (level 5). ) northerly winds, strong winds (level 7) from offshore and highlands, and strong winds (levels 5 to 6) from north to northeast on Wednesday (November 2) and Thursday (November 3), 7 in the offshore area, and the highland reaches the gale level (8), that is, the wind force of the No. 8 typhoon.
