What a rush: Well over 1000 characters - including witches, monsters, mummies, ghosts and of course normal people visited the "Witches' Night" in the old town of Schongau on Friday evening.

Schongau

- In daylight, they still look harmless.

But in the dark: They grin crookedly and mostly horribly scary in the dark: The pumpkin heads that shine on the curb of the Marienbrunnen in the night and are a real attraction on Friday evening in the old town of Schongau.

The advertising association Altstadt has invited to the "Witches' Night" in Schongau, witches' night?

Of course all hell broke loose!

Crowds on Marienplatz: It's difficult to estimate how many there really are here.

In the city below the city walls, the parking lots are full.

Squads of onlookers make their way up into the city like ant trails.

The venerable Ballenhaus has not seen such a crowd for a long time.

There are definitely a thousand.

Maybe twice as many?

Nobody can count that tonight.

In any case, the old town is jam-packed.

Business is booming.

It doesn't matter whether you're looking for fancy clothes, pizza, bratwurst kebab, decoration: there's a lot on offer.

Guided tour of witches with the witch child Hagasusa

All the streets are full of made-up creepy fellows and those who would like to see Schongau in a different way.

Children are also introduced to the medieval history of Schongau during the children's witch tour, which is accompanied by the witch child Hagasusa.

Shortly thereafter, city guide Kornelia Funke is waiting in front of the town hall for visitors on an evening stroll.

They don't take long to ask.

And Helmut Schmidbauer in the City Museum tells once more about "Hesen madness and Frauenpein".

Bettina Buresch lays 63 roses for 63 murdered women - supposed witches - in the rose garden.

Illuminated skeleton and illuminated witch dance on the Ballenhaus facade

In fact, the number of activities outside Marienplatz that evening is quite manageable.

At Marienplatz itself there is a lot to do in the glow of the campfire.

On the facade of the Ballenhaus, a glowing skeleton dances alternately with a witch riding a broomstick.

Halloween has taken over almost the entire old town.

The carved pumpkins at the Marienbrunnen are a real crowd puller.

It's crazy what imagination the carvers let there.

There is the pumpkin, with the spiders crawling out of its scraped head and the snake snaking its way through the eye holes.

On this evening, many children dare to touch the plastic spiders that are doing gymnastics in the laid out pumpkin brain.

ugh!

Quickly put it back into the pumpkin brain.

A little disgusted, shudder.

Anything is possible on a magical night like this.

Monster pumpkin eats mini pumpkin

What is being presented at the Marienbrunnen, of course with the prospect of a great prize: that is first-class carving.

A carved bat really hangs out in the pumpkin hole.

A real monster pumpkin eats a mini pumpkin in its mouth, a prickly tree fruit with eyes is still attached to the corncob ears with a safety pin.

Pumpkin art knows no bounds.

A carved witch whizzes through the pumpkin on a broomstick.

Luminous skeletons fight over the best spooky spot in the pumpkin cave.

A green pumpkin bimbo surprises with bright yellow eyes.

Another pumpkin wears its dentures as a crown.

Carved pumpkin in miniature format

Much admired: A mini pumpkin that also makes it onto the podium in the end: The six-centimetre-small Cheshire Pumpkin is a mini spooky wonder that certainly required some dexterity.

In the end it is Zaneta Rothnan who takes first place, Simon Riedl presented the second best pumpkin.

Rosalia Vicente and Marvin Müller share third place with the same number of points.

At the beginning of the event, the Schongauer Brass Boyz ensure that there is a great atmosphere in the darkness of the night with a fat brass band sound.

The Hexennacht visitors have long made themselves comfortable in Schongau's old town, which has once again shown what it's made of: the old town can be so wonderfully lively.
