Was the former British Prime Minister spied on?

Agents close to Moscow allegedly hacked Liz Truss' mobile phone when she was foreign secretary, according to a British newspaper.

The Mail on Sunday cites unnamed security sources as saying the ex-PM's personal smartphone was hacked "by operatives suspected of working for the Kremlin".

They are suspected of having had access to "top secret exchanges with international partners".

The incident, revealed by security sources, explains why the former Tory leader was forced to change her phone number, despite using the same one for more than a decade before taking over as Downing Street leader. note the newspaper.

British opposition MPs on Saturday called for an investigation after the revelation of these facts.

“It is essential that all of these security issues are investigated and addressed at the highest level,” observed opposition Labor MP Yvette Cooper.

“Very sensitive discussions”

A source told the newspaper that the "compromised" phone was placed in a locked safe in a government secure location after messages were hacked for up to a year, including "highly sensitive discussions" about the war in Ukraine.

The hack was discovered this summer when Liz Truss was Foreign Secretary campaigning to become Conservative Party leader and Prime Minister, the newspaper said.

"We need an independent emergency investigation to uncover the truth," said Liberal Democrat MP Layla Moran.

The report of the incident comes as Interior Minister Suella Braverman was reappointed by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak following his resignation due to a security breach.
