On the occasion of the presentation of its new graphic identity, the Matmut Group, whose head office is in Rouen, announced its intention to re

With its 6,500 employees, its more than six million contracts, the Matmut Group is one of the largest French mutual insurers.

It has 500 sites in France, including 480 commercial agencies, four regional telephone platforms, has the Daniel Havis Contemporary Art Center at the Château de Saint-Pierre-de-Varengeville and its headquarters in Rouen.

In total, these are energy bills of several million euros for energies which, according to forecasts, should explode with inflation.

The Norman company has therefore adopted a sobriety plan by activating several levers, the most innovative of which will be the replacement of illuminated signs with banners or flags without lighting.

Ahead of government announcements, the Matmut Group is committed to energy sobriety efforts: “First on heating, by lowering it by 1°C to 2°C at head office and in branches.

Then, we programmed the switching on of the lighting of the platforms and agencies just one hour before taking office and this according to the luminosity and the geographical location, explains Emmanuel Petit, the CSR (environmental responsibility) director.

“We are also in a systematic

relamping

campaign using LEDs for all buildings.

In addition, all commercial vehicles will become 100% electric and we are increasing the mobility package for our employees from 350 euros to 500 euros, encouraging them to use carpooling platforms and, for their purchasing power, we have just paid each a sharing bonus worth 900 euros.

This plan also concerns electrical and digital equipment, in particular the thousands of computers and the three data centers which have been subjected to an “energy balance”.

“We are also launching ways to recover the heat released in order to heat the premises, continues Emmanuel Petit.

We virtualize our servers to eliminate them and therefore consume less.

Our employees are also encouraged in the office or in telework to adopt the right gestures such as turning off the lights, turning off the computers, unplugging the chargers, favoring audio over video, not sending emails for nothing, etc.

“, specifies the Mr good practices of the Matmut.

“They get a different message every time the screensaver system starts up.

These are small things which, put together, will give results internally, but also in their private lives.

The false good idea of the government

But the most innovative commitment was unveiled during the presentation of the new graphic identity of the Matmut Group.

It concerns the policy of the brands in the 480 agencies in France.

“We are going to take the opportunity to change them all.

And rather than going back to models lit with neon lights, we opted for signs without lighting or backlighting.

In addition to saving electricity, we are thus complying with the government decree on switching off at night.

These replacements began on October 19 and will be spread over 18 months”, announces Emmanuel Petit.

“Will all this affect prices?

We have no idea!

Emmanuel Petit, CSR director at Matmut

Despite all these commitments, the general services of the Matmut Group have difficulty in assessing the resulting gains.

“Apart from the benefits for the environment, we only know that consumption will drop between 10 to 15%, but that depends on so many parameters, in particular the explosion in prices.

The exact repercussions for the Matmut Group, I have not the slightest idea, summarizes Emmanuel Petit.

“Will this be passed on to the rates?

I do not know either.

The pricing model of an insurance premium is the very nature of the risk plus the cost of management and fixed costs.

I know that we are doing everything today to be vigilant about price increases, especially among young people.

What impact will have (our energy policy) on the scale of a company like Matmut with 6,500 employees and six million contracts, we do not know yet.

But we are entering a new society.
