The police dispersed the protesters in Tin Hau on the July 1st handover day last year. Some riot police officers were surrounded and beaten when they tried to subdue a protester, and some even stabbed the police officer in the arm with a saber.
The engineer involved in the attack was arrested the same night on a passenger plane bound for London, and police later arrested two others.
The engineer and another defendant involved in obstructing the office had already been sentenced to prison for rioting and other crimes.
As for the second defendant in the same case, that is, the demonstrators who the police wanted to subdue, the sentencing in the District Court has been adjourned until now (31 days).
Judge Yao Xunzhi pointed out that the riot in this case was very young, and the second defendant had a high degree of participation. Considering that he was only 17 years old and had no criminal record at the time of the crime, he accepted the report's recommendations and sentenced him to a training center.
3 defendants: Huang Junhua (26 years old, engineer), Luo Juechen (20 years old), Zhou Peilin (23 years old).
They pleaded guilty to one count of rioting against them on July 1, 2020, outside the Queen's College.

Second defendant apologizes to injured police officer through lawyer
The defense pleaded for the second defendant Luo Juechen, saying that the second defendant had remorse, had the courage to reflect, and apologized to the injured police officer.
The defense also pointed out that the second defendant, who is currently a third-year university student, has applied for an extension of his studies.
Sentencing by the judge, the riot took place in a busy city with a large number of participants.

According to the case, about 300 demonstrators set up roadblocks on the afternoon of the incident, and the police began to disperse them at 4 o'clock.
When a police officer tried to subdue the second defendant, he was attacked by people at the scene. The third defendant tried to pull the second defendant away. The first defendant stabbed the policeman's left arm with a military jackknife. The second defendant finally managed to escape, and the scene was scattered.
Injured police officer transferred to civilian work
The injured officer suffered a 2cm stab wound on his left upper arm, which went deep into the muscle.
He was discharged the next day, but was re-admitted the same night with a fever and found the wound to be infected. He was finally granted 106 days of sick leave and required physiotherapy.
He still has mild pain from time to time, and after returning to work, he switched to clerical work.
At about 6 o'clock in the evening on the day of the crime, a woman booked a flight for the first defendant to leave Hong Kong for London that night. The first defendant also went home to change clothes, and then dropped a black bag into the sea at the Kwun Tong site.
The first defendant was arrested on the plane that night
The first defendant then rendezvoused with his girlfriend, and the two took a private car to the airport at night.
The first defendant successfully boarded the plane, but just before the plane took off, a police officer boarded the plane and arrested the first defendant.
As for the second and third defendants, they were arrested on July 16.
In addition, Zhang Zhicheng (27), the girlfriend of the first defendant, was charged with one count of obstruction of justice for allegedly helping Huang to leave Hong Kong after the incident.
She denies the charges and the case will be decided on November 11.
