Hundreds of children and teenagers have been injured in recent years after playing on trampoline facilities.

A new study by the Schneider Children's Hospital shows that children under the age of 6 were diagnosed with more fractures compared to children between the ages of 6 and 18, and that of the severe fractures that required surgery - two thirds were injured on a commercial trampoline facility and only one third were injured on a home trampoline.

In the study, which is based on 246 trampoline injuries in the hospital, it was found that 53% of the children were injured in the lower limb and 36% in the upper limb;

8% of injuries - in the spine.

Out of all the children who arrived with injuries, 46% were diagnosed with fractures.

A total of 113 fractures were diagnosed, of which 24.8% involved a growth plate and required long-term follow-up, but no long-term complications were found.

In 27% of all fractures it was necessary to treat the fracture in an operating room setting.

In other words, preschool children are injured more, but the serious injuries occur precisely in the older ages up to puberty.

Most children under the age of 6 were injured on a home trampoline, compared to children over the age of 6 who were injured on commercial trampoline facilities.

Children under the age of 6 were injured more in the lower limb than children aged 6 to 18. Children aged 6-12 were injured more in the upper limb than those under the age of 6 and over the age of 12 to 18. The study also shows that no difference was found between boys and girls in the degrees or sites of injury .

The authors of the study added recommendations regarding the use of the facilities and emphasized that the trampoline is not recommended for children under the age of 6.

Only one child should be allowed to jump at a time, if several children jump anyway they must be of a similar age and size.

Close adult supervision is necessary, use the net for the trampoline and make sure it is closed.

It is necessary to install shock-absorbing padding, do not use ladders or do somersaults.

Dr. Lee Fox, an orthopedic specialist at the Schneider Medical Center, explained that the study examined children who came to the emergency room, "of all the children who come, 1% were injured on the trampoline.

We have seen that children aged 6 and under have more fracture injuries on home trampolines, but the most serious injuries occur on commercial ones, because there you can jump to greater heights," she noted. "You have to be careful not to put a boy together with a young child, because then the bounce can cause blows humanity for children".

She continued, "We do not find a connection to the age growth or the strength of the bones at the different ages, but it is probably simply a different fall related to age, children fall on their feet while adults fall on their hands and thus absorb shocks."
