With a weak point in the bloc, Lapid has only one choice in the elections Israel today

2022-10-31T21:23:15.515Z

The Prime Minister will try to prevent Netanyahu's bloc from reaching 61 mandates • Just before the opening of the polls, he asked the right-wing supporters to "give him a chance" • The plan for Voter's Day: to focus the activity of Yesh Atid in the major cities and the Sharon region

Prime Minister Lapid and Yesh Atid reach the last row in a good state at the party level, but in a dangerous situation from the point of view of the bloc. For the first time in years, Lapid is the person who controlled the public agenda and ran a "prime minister campaign", while Netanyahu is the leader of the opposition.

Lapid has tried in the last four months to get the public used to the fact that the phrase "Prime Minister Lapid" is not something foreign.

Bish Atid worked to emphasize Lapid's political successes and market the last government's moves as significant achievements for the public on a political, security and economic level.

Yesh Atid is expected to significantly increase its strength by about 7 seats, from 17 in the previous elections to 23 to 25 seats according to the latest polls.

Lapid's goal was to open a large gap with Gantz, in order to become the head of the bloc and turn the battle into a head-to-head battle against Netanyahu, in contrast to the state camp's attempt to paint the race for prime minister as a three-way battle that also includes Gantz.

At the same time as Lapid's attempt to increase the power of Yesh Atid, the Prime Minister has been drinking the small left-wing parties, while receiving criticism from them and running the risk that one of them will not pass the blocking percentage.

On top of that, Lapid was unable to get Lieberman and the Arab parties to sign an agreement on surpluses and prevent wasted votes, while in the Netanyahu bloc all the parties signed an agreement.

Prime Minister Lapid's main weakness is the fact that he cannot form a government without relying on Hadash-Ta'al. The state camp made it difficult for Lapid when they announced that they would not agree to form a government with Hadash-Ta'al or Balad.

To avoid voter smuggling, Lapid tried throughout the campaign to avoid the question of whether he would cooperate with the Arab parties.

Will the draw be enough?

We note that the polls predicting a 60-60 tie between the blocs may be enough for Lapid to prevent Netanyahu from serving, while he remains prime minister of a transitional government.

Just before the elections Lapid also appealed to right-wing voters in an attempt to move those who were undecided between the blocs and said: "I never believed that Israel is divided into 'us' and 'them'. We all love the country, we are all patriots and Zionists and want to live here together. I appeal from here to the voters who do not They voted for me in the past and I ask you for an opportunity to work together with you. All Israelis deserve - everyone, right and left, Likudniks and some Atidniks - the most basic thing: a government of decent and hardworking people, who will work hard for them."

In the meantime, the Yesh Atid call center continued to convince the undecided among the blocs, but they were instructed not to urge Meretz and Labor supporters to choose Yesh Atid, for fear that those parties would not pass the blocking percentage.

All members of Yesh Atid's Knesset are expected to focus today on pre-marked target cities, where growth in the number of supporters of the party can be registered.

The cities where the focus will be carried out are Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, Rehovot and Nes Ziona, as well as in the Kiryat region and the Sharon region.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Lapid said in a briefing at HML on the day of Yesh Atid's election that his party is gaining momentum: "We will bring from every city and every seat people who believe that it is time to choose the future of the country.

"In all the recent polls there was one statistic: 60-60, which means that the next elections will be decided in this room. And there our chiefs of staff are already on a screen. We see in the last 24 hours the beginning of an interesting movement, we are in momentum and everyone sees it. It will happen on the ground The territory will decide these elections. We need to increase by one mandate and we won," Lapid told the HML members.

"It's happening here, it's happening because we're precise, it's happening because we're experienced, it's happening because there is no debate in the Israeli political space about who has the best territory in the country - there is a future. So we will bring from every neighborhood, every city, every seat, people who believe The time has come to choose the future of the State of Israel over its past," concluded Lapid.
