The presidential election in Brazil was extremely close, the result shows how divided the country is.
The day after Lula's election victory, truck drivers barricade the country's streets - and Bolsonaro has disappeared.
Burning tires on the highway: truck drivers have set up barricades in the state of Mato Grosso.
The Brazilian highway police said on Monday that truckers had partially or completely blocked the roads in 16 states.
Truck drivers are one of Bolsonaro's most important constituencies.
After Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was declared the winner of the presidential elections in the largest country in South America on Sunday, supporters of the defeated head of state Jair Bolsonaro blocked important roads in the capital Brasilia on Monday.
Feared outbreaks of violence did not materialize in Brazil.
Lula had prevailed in a tight race against the right-wing extremist Jair Bolsonaro.
Lula received 50.9 percent of the vote in the runoff, Bolsonaro 49.1 percent.
He is the first head of state in Brazilian history not to be re-elected.
Ricardo Ismael, political scientist:
“The result clearly shows how divided the country is – at the regional level and between states. There is a division within society and even within families. That will be the new President's first task: to propose an agenda to reduce this political polarization.«
Election winner Lula will have to deal with corruption in the country as the new president.
Lula had also promised his voters to overturn gun-friendly policies and protect the Amazon rainforest.
The winner of the election is to take office on January 1st.
But before the change of power is completed, the first step is actually an admission of the electoral defeat of the defeated party.
So far it is not clear whether Jair Bolsonaro intends to do this at all.
Bolsonaro went into hiding after the election results were announced and only wants to make a public statement later today.
According to media reports, several ministers and advisers tried to persuade him to concede defeat.
