Lufthansa is turning its on-board equipment upside down: will you be able to return to the top airlines with sleeper seats in Eco and luxurious First Class?

Lufthansa is gaining altitude again: The almost complete travel stop forced by Corona has been overcome, the flight chaos of the summer has largely given way to the usual routine.

Some super Airbus A380s are returning to service - new, modern and efficient aircraft such as the Boeing 787 "Dreamliner" are taking them up.

With the introduction of the new aircraft, Germany's (again) largest airline is starting a comprehensive update for seats and service.

This is also badly needed.

Because especially in the intercontinental business class, which is extremely important for sales and group earnings, Lufthansa has lost touch with premium airlines.

And in economy, frugal tourists no longer know why they should pay a surcharge for the crane - and book their ticket with a low-cost carrier.

The airline is now investing 2.5 billion euros by 2025 in order to offer contemporary comfort in over 100 aircraft, and in some cases even to outperform the competition: it has never afforded such a thorough and expensive renovation.

All passengers should benefit from the innovations, above all the new seats of the "Allegris" generation, whether they are traveling in the wooden class or in one of the last first-class compartments that are still on the road.

These are the innovations at Lufthansa:

  • Economy:

Unfortunately, there is no more space as standard, but passengers can book exactly that for an extra charge.

For example in the first row, which offers more legroom.

In addition, in all rows they have the option of leaving the seat next to them free and then enjoying a little more arm room and privacy.

Even the "Sleeper's Row 2.0" with more space, leg rests and a mattress is attractive on long-haul routes.

And there should again be free spirits from the drinks trolley.

  • Premium Economy:

New seats in hard shells should offer more space and comfort, and no longer annoy the person behind when you tilt the backrest.

There are also fold-out leg rests, a 15.6-inch monitor and modern noise-cancelling headphones.

  • Business Class:

Lufthansa is finally catching up with the competition, which has been offering single seats exclusively with direct aisle access for a long time.

If you convert it into a two-meter bed, you can rest shielded behind the half-height privacy screen.

In this class, Lufthansa has the option of even booking your own, complete suite with high walls and a door, which is ahead of the competition.

  • First Class:

Even in the most expensive travel class (if it is on board), Lufthansa will soon be offering the standard that the Gulf airlines such as Emirates were the first to set.

Travelers will find their private suites, equipped with a large bed, dining table and wardrobe.

The TV screen extends over the full width of the compartment and connects headphones wirelessly via Bluetooth.

It will be some time before all long-haul aircraft bring this upgrade.

For a transitional period, Lufthansa is also using leased Boeing 787s from China's Hainan Air, whose seats are again configured differently.

For the time being, the question remains open as to whether the German airline will regain the fifth star of the renowned Skytrax ranking with the innovations?

To the astonishment of some customers, she received the coveted award in 2017 – but recently lost it again.
