Opinion 2022 elections: the issues that occupy the small citizen | Israel today

2022-11-01T07:24:07.832Z

The issue that preoccupies the public the most is also what the election system missed and is the cost of living • When a plate of shawarma, a typical street food costs 80 shekels, the issue that preoccupies the little citizen is not yes or no Bibi • The pressure of the Arab public to break away from radical Islamization and engage In their interests you have to start from the bottom • Also, why the politicians are good people

1.

Not Lapid, not Netanyahu and not the nonsense of Hadar Mokhtar.

What excites tens of thousands of shawarma-loving Israelis these days is a dramatic consumer decision to stop eating the beloved food permanently on Monday.

The reason?

The prices of the dishes skyrocketed.

The available and cheap street food has become expensive and impossible.

The price of a shawarma pita that cost 25 shekels has grown to 50 shekels, a flatbread is trading at over 60 shekels, and to enjoy a plate of shawarma you will have to spend at least 80 shekels(!) out of your pocket.

The fans of the spinning skewer in the Facebook groups decided to say enough and announce operative measures.

Have you heard of Mittals Monday?

Get schwarmhals on Monday.

Bibi.

It may sound amusing, but it is a wonderful example of the colossal blunder of the current election campaign.

Once around the issue of the cost of living, which is the most exciting, important and annoying issue for every citizen.

A second time - in the disconnection between the politicians and the Israeli public.

While the politicians fuel the issue of "Yes Bibi no Bibi" and emphasize the meaning of the breach of trust offense - the Israeli public is pained by the prices of tuna, disgusted by the rising prices in restaurants and trying to figure out how to get through the upcoming Hanukkah or Passover holidays without selling a kidney.

2.

Everyone talks about the voting rate in the Arab public, but no one talks about the essence of the vote.

At a time when Itamar Ben Gabir also makes the distinction between death to Arabs and death to terrorists, it is clear that the State of Israel needs to account to the Arab sector, and the Arab sector, for its part, needs to make a choice.

The Arab residents of the State of Israel deserve more.

The family doctor, pharmacist, friend at work or the Arab neighbor from the next town deserves to live like everyone else.

He deserves a proper education and normal infrastructure.

It has well-ordered roads and proper housing estates.

It is hard to say that the experiment with Mansour Abbas worked.

He wanted to engage in civilian issues, but his party members and its Islamic leadership took him to discussions on the Temple Mount, and his number two, Walid Taha, said during a military operation that his heart was with the Palestinians.

The pressure on the public representatives of the Arab sector to leave nationalism and live a normal life should start from below.

This election may be a turning point for him.

3.

Here's a shocking scoop: the politicians are good people.

It is true that it is customary to slander them, to belittle them, to shoot clichés about them taking care of their honor or their seats, but for the absolute majority of politicians this is not true.

These are quality people, who could earn much more in the private sector and absorb much less slander.

It is not a great pleasure to sit in Knesset committees for long hours on subsections of the National Insurance, the income tax and regulation.

It's not much fun to go through exhausting filibusters in the Knesset plenum and then also be exposed to venomous criticism and vicious talkbacks.

This should also be remembered: the vast majority of the politicians who will be elected to the Knesset today come from a deep sense of mission and a desire to do good.
