Fatal accident: truck crashes into bridge pillars – driver dies

A serious accident occurred on the A46 near Wuppertal on Wednesday (November 2nd).

A truck driver died as a result.

Wuppertal – Serious accident on the A46 on Wednesday morning: A truck driver crashed his vehicle into a bridge pier and died there, reports 24RHEIN.

"For reasons that are not yet clear, a truck crashed into a bridge pillar on the A46 towards Brilon this morning.

The driver was trapped in the completely destroyed driver's cab and suffered fatal injuries," the police said.

A truck driver crashed into a bridge pillar on Autobahn 46 near Wuppertal and died.

According to initial investigations, the truck left the lane to the left, broke through a concrete wall and then crashed into a pillar on the Ehrenhainstrasse (Haan) bridge, which crosses the A46.

The driver of the truck died at the scene of the accident.

Four other cars were damaged by flying debris.

According to the current status, no other people were injured.

A structural engineer is on site to check the bridge, and the rescue work at the scene of the accident is ongoing.

Significant traffic disruption is expected, police said.

The busy autobahn between Düsseldorf and Wuppertal was closed for hours during rush hour on Wednesday morning.

Motorists were stuck in traffic for more than an hour.

It was initially unclear when the lanes could be at least partially reopened.

It was not until the end of September 2022 that a 60-year-old truck driver died after an accident on the 553 federal highway.
