The damage is great: A fire in the Holzkirchner daycare center "Kinderland" on Tuesday evening (November 1st) devastated an entire group room.

Property damage: at least 300,000 euros.

Initial investigations point to arson.

Holzkirchen

– Residents noticed the first flames around 6:10 p.m.: In the early evening of the All Saints’ Day holiday, one of the seven group houses of the “Kinderland” daycare center on Erich-Kästner-Straße caught fire.

A large contingent of fire brigades managed to get the full fire under control by around 10 p.m.

Nobody got hurt.

The daycare center on the outskirts of Holzkirchner, not far from the northern bypass, was not open on Monday or on the public holiday.

According to police, no one was in the home at the time of the fire.

According to initial estimates, the property damage amounts to at least 300,000 euros.

The premises of the "Salamander" kindergarten group cannot be used.

It is unclear whether the other six group houses can still be used or whether the embers in the insulation under the tin roof have spread further.

As a precaution, Holzkirchen's mayor Christoph Schmid blocked the gymnasium of the elementary school on Baumgartenstrasse for the rest of the week in order to be able to offer at least basic care for the Kinderland protégés.

A total of around 160 children are affected: four kindergarten groups, two crèches and one after-school care group.

Due to the fire, the day-care center cannot be operated until further notice.

Initial findings point to negligent arson as the cause of the fire.

As Stefan Sonntag, press spokesman for the Oberbayern-Süd police headquarters, explained when asked, local residents noticed young people in the vicinity of the daycare center on the evening of the fire.

According to the police, the fire started on the terrace in front of the "Salamander" group house and spread from there to the building.

The terraces are assigned to the group houses like small incisions and are hardly visible.

The suspicion: strangers were handling candles or fire there, which then got out of control and quickly grew into a major fire in the solid wood construction.

According to the police, around 60 firefighters, ten emergency services and eight police patrols were deployed.

The flames appeared to be out around 10 p.m., but around 1:30 a.m. suspicious smoke rose again.

The Holzkirchner Wehr moved out again to render these embers harmless.

The investigation into the cause of the fire has taken over the Kripo Miesbach.

In the course of initial investigations, the suspicion arose that the fire in the outdoor area of the day care center was presumably set intentionally.

"Witnesses stated that shortly after the fire broke out, a previously unknown group of people left the scene of the crime," said the police headquarters in Oberbayern-Süd.

The fire investigators at the Miesbach Criminal Police Office are now looking for more witnesses: Who noticed people in the area of the day-care center on Erich-Kästner-Straße on Tuesday evening, November 1, around 6 p.m. or before?

Who else can give hints?

Information can be given to the Miesbach criminal police on 08025/299-0 or to the Holzkirchner police on 08024/90740.

In particular, the group of people who were in the area of the day-care center are asked to contact the police immediately.

The investigations of the fire investigators of the Miesbach criminal police are ongoing.
