Terrible accident near Leverkusen-Morsbroich: A free-running horse was hit by a freight train and fatally injured.
Leverkusen – Drama near Leverkusen: On Monday (October 31), a freight train collided with a runaway horse near the Leverkusen-Morsbroich site.
Despite the emergency braking, the train caught the animal, which was only found dead next to the tracks by the federal police, reports 24RHEIN.
The freight train was damaged, no one was injured.

On Monday afternoon at around 1 p.m., the driver of a freight train on the Duisburg-Niederlahnstein railway line initiated an emergency stop near Leverkusen.
The reason for this was a free-running horse that ran across the tracks.
Despite emergency braking, a collision could no longer be avoided.
The animal succumbed to its injuries on the spot and was found by the Federal Police about five meters from the tracks.
Terrible accident with freight train: horse broke free while walking and ran away
According to witnesses, while walking about four kilometers away, the horse broke free and ran away.
The forces of the Federal Police checked the 29-year-old owner and began investigations into the dangerous intervention in rail traffic.
The freight train was damaged, but was able to continue its journey.
The exact amount of damage will be determined in the course of the investigation by specialists from Deutsche Bahn AG.
After a horse accident with a freight train: the railway line had to be closed for around three hours
The railway line was closed for around 180 minutes, and eight trains were delayed by a total of 330 minutes.
At the end of August 2022, horses were also escaped in Mönchengladbach - but they were picked up safely by the police.
