The climate activists do not rest.

In the next few days they want to paralyze the motorways around Munich.

This threatens traffic chaos.

Politicians condemn the protests - and also believe prison sentences are possible.

Munich – Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) is alarmed.

Because the highway blockade by climate activists threatens chaos on the streets.

Reiter warns the protesters.

This type of protest is "completely wrong".

And he draws a line: "Legitimate protest stops where it endangers others."

The background to the announcement is a blockade by activists in Berlin on Monday.

Because of the action, firefighters did not get through to an injured person.

The group "Last Generation" had called for the blockade.

In Germany, the group has around 500 members, according to spokeswoman Noemi Mundhaas.

Then they run out into the street when pedestrians turn green.

But: They stay on the pedestrian crossing so that cars cannot drive on.

The traffic backs up onto the freeway.

And if everything comes to a standstill there, they stand in the traffic jam – until the emergency services end the action.

Along with Scientist Rebellion and Debt for Climate, the Last Generation is currently conducting disruption campaigns across the country.

They are protesting for climate protection and are demanding a speed limit on motorways and the continuation of the 9-euro ticket.

In Munich, the "Last Generation" also wants to draw attention to the fellow demonstrators who are still in prison.

After a sticking action in BMW Welt on Saturday, activists from "Scientist Rebellion" were arrested.

That should prevent further action.

According to Mundhaas, twelve protesters were still in police custody yesterday.

Criticism of climate glue: Munich politicians condemn protests

The actions are not well received in the town hall.

In an application, CSU Vice President Hans Theiss had already called for quick action by the city leaders.

And the Greens in the city council also condemn the protests.

"The funds are wrong," says parliamentary group leader Dominik Krause.

The activists want to protest until tomorrow, Friday, says Alexander Grevel.

He is spokesman for the "Scientist Rebellion".

The police are preparing for further protests in the coming months.

In doing so, the protection of freedom of assembly will be taken into account, but action will also be taken against illegal actions, according to a spokesman.

Federal Minister of Justice Marco Buschmann (FDP) considers jail sentences for the activists possible if they endanger human life.
