Paris, SANA- The International Energy Agency called on Europe to take immediate action to avoid a gas shortage in the winter of next year

Paris-Sana

The International Energy Agency called on Europe to act immediately to avoid a shortage of gas in the winter of next year, warning that supplies would fall to less than half.

Reuters quoted the Agency's Executive Director Fatih Birol as saying to reporters while presenting a report on the balance of supply and medicine in Europe during the years 2023-2024: The alarm bells are sounded for the European government and the European Commission regarding gas next year, and that they should act immediately to avoid a shortage of natural gas next year. .

Birol indicated that the challenge next year will most likely be greater, as all possibilities indicate that supplies will fall to less than half and may be cut off completely in 2023, stressing that governments must quickly improve energy efficiency and speed up the use of heating pumps and renewable energy, among other measures.

After Russia launched a special operation to protect Donbass, Western countries imposed wide-ranging sanctions against Moscow, which reflected economic problems for the United States, Britain and the European Union, including a sharp rise in fuel and food prices.
