"Rainfall could be with electric shocks, strong winds and possible hailstorms, as well as cause landslides, increased levels of rivers and streams, overflows and flooding in low-lying areas," warns the Mexican National Meteorological Service.

Hurricane Lisa made landfall this Wednesday near Belize City (east coast of the country) as a category I hurricane, and was heading to southeast Mexico at night, where it is expected to impact with torrential rains.

Lisa arrived in Belize with winds of 85 mph (140 km/h), according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC, in English).

Both the coast of Belize and part of the coast of southeastern Mexico, from Chetumal to Puerto Costa Maya, are under a hurricane warning.

The Mexican National Meteorological Service indicated that, due to its "wide circulation", Lisa "will produce very strong to intense rains", specifically in the southeast of Mexico and in the Yucatan peninsula.

Gusts of wind are also expected in Campeche and Quintana Roo.

It is expected to remain in Belize between Wednesday and Thursday and then reach northern Guatemala and southeastern Mexico.

After passing through Honduras, the tropical storm warning for the Bay Islands and the north coast of the Central American country was suspended.

The National Hurricane Center is also keeping an eye on Martin, which has converted from a tropical storm to a hurricane in the mid-Atlantic, although it does not threaten to make landfall at the moment.
