The municipality wanted to prevent the Farchanter Wirt from being closed.

Now she runs it temporarily herself and is looking for a tenant.

Meanwhile, bankruptcy proceedings are ongoing.

Farchant – The old innkeeper has been in the rumor mill in the village lately.

What is wrong with the central economy with hotel in Farchant?

What's next?

Now there is clarity.

"The community will host," announced Christian Hornsteiner (CSU) on Wednesday evening at a press conference.

At least temporarily.

"We'll take over the business ourselves until we find a new tenant," the mayor explained.

George Kink acts as administrator with immediate effect.

The former ice hockey professional has been working for the municipality for a long time, had hired the swimming pool in the summer and was supposed to spend the winter with the construction team.

Now he has a new task.

"I'm looking forward to it, it's another new experience," emphasized the 40-year-old.

But Hornsteiner makes one thing clear: the fact that the municipality runs the inn itself will not be a permanent solution.

"That would be difficult from a legal point of view alone."

The Alter Wirt case had come to a head in the past few weeks and months.

While in the summer there was still talk of provisional insolvency proceedings for the GmbH of the previous tenant, Volker Lux, who had meanwhile taken over the Brandstatthof in Steingaden, this has now finally been opened on November 1st.

Since around August, the inn in Farchant has been under the care of an insolvency administrator from Pluta AG in Munich, who has appointed a temporary managing director.

But now it's finally over: On October 31, the property went back to the municipality of Farchant.

Alter Wirt in Farchant: The place for events

You had to act quickly there.

Because: "It was important to us that we didn't have to close the Alter Wirt," emphasizes Hornsteiner.

"That would have been the worst option." After all, the inn is a meeting point for many local clubs.

"The big events all take place there." If only because of the hall, which holds around 300 guests.

So what to do?

The municipal council finally made the decision unanimously and privately that the municipality itself should maintain operations.

With the help of Kink.

The personnel was again Hornsteiner's idea.

"He trained as an insurance salesman, as an ice hockey coach he had to manage staff," says the head of the town hall, citing the ulterior motives.

"So I went straight to him.

Luckily he said yes immediately.” That was last Friday. “It all happened very spontaneously and quickly.”

Traditional restaurant: 13 employees are taken on

For the time being, little will change in the framework conditions.

"Business is continuing as normal.

We'll also take on the entire staff," assures Hornsteiner.

That's 13 employees, some of whom work part-time.

"But people need someone to talk to." Kink has to deal with issues such as purchasing, organizing the reception desk and duty rostering.

"He's supposed to be a coordinator," sums up Hornsteiner.

And interface to the community.

The mayor cannot estimate how long this solution will last.

"Maybe half a year, maybe it will take longer." The call for applications is currently being prepared.

In any case, you will not break the search for a new tenant over your knee.

"The Alter Wirt is too important for that." Kink also points this out: "He's a piece of Farchant, an integral part of the place."

Municipality has owned the property for around 40 years

The municipality has owned the property for around 40 years.

It has recently invested heavily again.

Around 600,000 euros flowed into fire protection.

“Expenditure that nobody sees because the quality doesn’t change for the guest,” says Hornsteiner.

But the accommodation is not in bad condition.

"We have constantly modernized, prepared the rooms." After all, the hotel has a capacity of 50 beds.

"Most of them are really in very good shape." The booking figures would also show that: "Business was very good this year."

Giving up the economy did not occur to the community.

"That would have been a bad signal," emphasizes Hornsteiner, looking at the newly opened Explorer Hotel in Föhrenheide.

According to the motto: open new house, close traditional inn.

They didn't want to get involved in such discussions.

Rather, Farchant could easily tolerate both companies in parallel.
