Corinna Larsen, in her 'podcast' about King Juan Carlos I: "He came back with bags full of money"

2022-11-04T21:30:28.673Z

The businesswoman relates, in full trial against the king emeritus, details of the intimate relationship she had with him. EL PAÍS accesses the first two episodes, which will come to light on Monday

Tandredi, the public relations consultant who advises Corinna Zu Sayn-Wittgenstein (Corinna Larsen, in her maiden name), has offices in London, Milan and New York.

Ella on her website boasts of "ensuring that her clients exude credibility, consistency and security when conveying her messages."

The woman who had an intimate relationship with Juan Carlos I between 2004 and 2009 knows that the legal battle she has raised against the king emeritus before the British courts is not fought only with precedents, facts and legal arguments.

Her story of love and spite is also judged in the court of public opinion, and it is on this ground that she can manage to twist the arm of her rival.

Days before sessions resume at the UK Court of Appeal,

podcast

producer Project Brazen,

promoted by journalists Bradley Hope and Tom Wright, has announced the launch of

Corinna y el Rey

, a review of the history of this relationship in which the protagonist has participated above all, but also other interviewees such as journalists Pilar Eyre, David Jiménez , or the historian Paul Preston.

EL PAÍS has been able to listen to the first two episodes, which premiere on Monday.

“When people define that as an

affair

and present me as a mistress, it's not that it's pejorative, it's that it just doesn't reflect the depth and breadth of this relationship.

I never felt so married before [there were two previous marriages] as I felt with the King of Spain.

In my heart, he was my husband”, explains Larsen, to introduce her relationship with Juan Carlos I.

Despite a somewhat bizarre launch via an enigmatic fashion website called

Royal Hunt

, the final product has the look of a serious journalistic piece of work.

The Spanish public will not be surprised by the story of a young prince sent from Portugal to Spain to remain under the control of Francisco Franco;

the romance and marriage of Juan Carlos and Sofía;

the already known details of the Transition to democracy or the role of the young King in 23-F.

But to this historical account is added the one that has to do with the conquering skills displayed by the emeritus, according to Larsen, and also aspects of his social life.

Like the one in which he says that the then Monarch appeared at home with “bags of money” and nonchalantly explained that they were gifts from “friends”.

"What I told him was that it was a huge concession to accept that someone [with whom you are going to have a relationship] had a wife," explains the businesswoman in the interview.

“I have no moral problem with that, because they are two consenting adults, who basically agreed to get married for a purpose, and they both got whatever they wanted out of that marriage.

But it's another thing to become part of a harem-like structure, something she wasn't even remotely interested in,” she continues.

“She called me at least 10 times a day.

She sent flowers and letters.

Hundreds of cards.

[…] She expressed her emotions in a very deep way.

They were not letters loaded with clichés and stereotypes.

They were very sincere, all handwritten.

She told me how much she missed me.

He clearly gave me the impression that he was missing a person with whom he could talk about everything.”

Larsen builds a story in which, apparently, two adults were beginning to set up a common future.

battle for money

Larsen's lawsuit against Juan Carlos I is elucidated in the British civil jurisdiction.

At no time are jail sentences, arrest warrants or extradition requests raised.

It's about money.

And, above all, the possibility of putting an end to the matter remains on the table if the parties reach an out-of-court settlement.

At the end of December 2020, the plaintiff recounted in her claim for damages the harassment that, always according to her version, she had suffered directly from the king emeritus or from people on his behalf, such as the former director of the CNI Félix Sanz Roldán.

The intention of the emeritus, according to Larsen, was to recover the almost 65 million euros that he had transferred to the businesswoman in an "irrevocable" way in 2012, or resume the sentimental relationship, and that intention gave rise to the alleged threats, defamation, electronic surveillance and monitoring to which she and her team of advisers were subjected.

The consequence of all this, according to her writing, is anxiety and anguish that have required medical treatment;

the deterioration of her relationships with her children and relatives, and the loss of many of her billionaire clients.

Larsen requested in her lawsuit a court order that prevented Juan Carlos I from communicating with her, following her, defaming her or approaching her at a distance of less than 150 meters.

And he demanded compensation, which he did not quantify, for damages.

The trial has barely passed its preliminary phase, but it demands the attention of the media with each new oral hearing.

The next one will take place on Wednesday.

And, 24 hours before, the first two episodes of the

Corinna y el Rey

podcast

will be released.

Almost an hour and a half between the two, with allegedly romantic details of the intimate nucleus that she, her son Alexander and the king emeritus came to form: "He told me that he had been very busy [when his children were little] and he was not focused enough to be a great father.

But that he really enjoyed playing this role now, especially with Alexander.

He would literally change him, dress him, teach him a bunch of stuff,” she describes.

Until, curiously, at the end of the second episode a story begins to emerge that is the harbinger of the coming storm: "There were things that were very unusual for me, to the point that I referred to all that as 'the court of miracles'.

[Juan Carlos] called, for example, the owner of some

chateux

of Bordeaux wine and told him how much he liked his wine and if he could send him more.

And suddenly 20 boxes of this very expensive wine appeared.

His wishes were the orders of others.

And people would go out of their way to please him,” says Larsen with apparent astonishment.

“I watched him come back from a few trips and he seemed as happy as a five-year-old.

He would come back with bags full of money, and I would ask him: 'My God, what is that?', 'Oh, such a friend, or this other friend, gave it to me,' he would reply.

It was a fairly common situation,” says the interviewee.

End of the second episode.

A week ahead until the broadcast of the next one, and a trial in the middle, with the expense that this entails for both parties in lawyers and advisors.

Sources familiar with the budget that such a case can entail in British justice venture that, between the hiring of the trial lawyer, the procedural strategy and the deployment of public relations, the businesswoman has already spent at least 600,000 euros.

"We have not coordinated or consulted with Corinna Zu Sayn-Wittgenstein on the timing of the publication of the

podcast

," defends one of the journalists behind the project, Bradley Hope.

“In fact, I didn't even know about the match with one of the views.

In June we decided that we wanted to put it on the air before December, and the normal thing is that the installments are weekly, to generate an audience, ”he explains.

For now, the announcement of the launch of the

podcast

has served to remind the public that an all-out fight is still going on in the British courts.

And that the figure of Corinna Larsen continues to be an unresolved headache for both Juan Carlos I and the King's House, but that it could be resolved immediately with an agreement out of court.
