Some women experienced severe menstrual bleeding after the corona vaccination.
The EMA has now recognized these as side effects.
Amsterdam – The EU medicines agency EMA wants to include heavy menstrual bleeding as a possible side effect after the corona vaccination in the description of the corona vaccines from Pfizer/Biontech and Moderna.
This was announced by the authority in Amsterdam on Friday, November 4th.
Corona vaccination: Heavy menstrual bleeding possible - no negative consequences for fertility
The complaints observed in the analysis are mostly temporary and not serious.
There is also no evidence that they have a negative impact on fertility.
Studies had shown that in some women menstruation lasted longer or was more intense after vaccination.
The EMA experts had reviewed the data and concluded "that there is at least a reasonable possibility that the occurrence of heavy menstrual bleeding is causally related to these vaccines".
They then recommended expanding the information for the preparations.
Corona vaccination recommended: Most side effects are harmless
Of course, we do not advise against the corona vaccination.
The most frequently reported vaccination reaction is still pain at the injection site.
Even with the new vaccines adapted to Omikron, nothing has really changed in terms of side effects.
Data to date has shown that the side effect profile is very similar to that of the original Covid-19 vaccines.
