Today, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a Russian draft resolution to combat the glorification of Nazism, in which 106 countries voted in favor, 51 countries opposed, and 15 countries abstained.
RIA Novosti reported that the resolution recommends that states take appropriate concrete measures, "including in the field of legislation and education in accordance with their international human rights obligations, to prevent the falsification of the history and results of the Second World War and the denial of crimes against humanity and war crimes committed during the Second World War."
The resolution also calls on states to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination by all appropriate means, including legislative.
The resolution condemns the use of educational curricula to promote racism, discrimination, hatred and violence based on race, nationality, religion or belief.
