The Darién has become the stage for the drama of Venezuelans seeking an opportunity to reach the United States and also a hotbed for "influencers" who show their journey as migrants step by step.
This is the case of Marlon Anaya, a young man who has 50,000 followers on TikTok, a social network in which he has posted videos of his journey through the jungle, his time in Honduras, Guatemala and Mexico and, finally, the long-awaited arrival in the United States. USA
Marlon is just one of the more than 28,079 Venezuelans who have crossed the Darién jungle, from January to June 2022. His videos have become an inspiration manual for those who want to follow in his footsteps.
In the comments, he is showered with blessings, requests for information about other migrants who have disappeared on the route, and practical questions about the obstacles along the way.
Venezuelans have become the bulk of the migrant population for some months, making up almost 60% of the total number of people who cross the jungle.
The journey is fraught with risks both natural and from criminal organizations, but for many, Marlon has become proof that achieving the goal is possible.
