Cyclone Lisa, which has been downgraded to a tropical depression, will cause "intense" rains in the states of southeastern Mexico, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) warned on Friday.
The phenomenon, which made landfall in Belize as a hurricane on Wednesday, is 65 miles (105 kilometers)
north of Coatzacoalcos, in Veracruz
, and 186 miles (300 kilometers)
west of Ciudad del Carmen, in Campeche
, according to the latest report from the organism.
The depression has maximum sustained winds of 34 miles per hour (55 kilometers per hour), gusting to 46 miles per hour (75 kilometers per hour) and moving northwest at 7 miles per hour (11 kilometers per hour), according to with the NMS.
Despite weakening, Lisa will cause "intense" rains of 75 to 150 millimeters in the south of Veracruz, state of the Gulf of Mexico.

There will also be "very strong" rainfall in Chiapas and Tabasco, as well as "strong" in Campeche and Oaxaca.
Likewise, wind gusts of 31 to 37 miles per hour (50 to 60 kilometers per hour) and waves of 1 to 2 meters high are expected on the south coast of Veracruz.

"The rains generated by this system could cause landslides, increased levels of rivers and streams, overflows and floods in low-lying areas of the aforementioned states, for which the population and maritime navigation are urged to attend to the warnings," warned the SMN.

Lisa is the 14th named cyclone of the current Atlantic season, which has seen seven hurricanes.
Last May, the Mexican authorities predicted the formation of up to 40 named cyclones by 2022, which they described as
an "active season"
, and predicted that of the total number of tropical cyclones generated, at least five would hit the country.
