In the south of Bavaria the time had come on Friday: the first snowflakes fell from the sky and turned the landscape white.

More fell on Saturday night.

Update, November 5, 7:33 a.m

.: Plenty of fresh snow fell in the Bavarian Alps on Saturday night.

The snow line fell below 1000 meters in some areas.

The German weather service also warns of further snowfall in the mountains on Saturday.

The warning should be taken seriously, especially by weekend climbers.

The paths from 1000 to 1500 meters are covered with snow.

The autumn hiking season is over.

Nothing works without boots, gear, sticks and experience.

Below that, the weather is designed accordingly: consistently low single-digit temperatures under thick clouds and drizzle.

Very typical November weather.

First report, Friday, November 4th, 5:30 p.m

.: Ruhpolding – You really didn’t expect it.

The weather reports clearly stated that it would be quite cool on Friday, November 4th, and that it could snow in the Alps from around 1,200 meters.

But the images that arrived in the afternoon show a white landscape in Ruhpolding, in the district of Traunstein.

It is particularly remarkable that the snow does not fall at an altitude of more than 1,000 meters - but in Ruhpolding at an altitude of 750 meters.

For comparison: Munich is at 520 meters.

In almost all of Bavaria, temperatures dropped to below ten degrees on Friday, and in many places in Munich there were complaints about freezing hands when cycling.

It was even colder in the surrounding area - and in Traunstein it was enough for the first snow.

The first snow is falling in Bavaria - and contrary to previous forecasts, it is also below 1,000 meters above sea level.

But if you are looking forward to a white November, you will be disappointed.

As remarkable as the first snowfall on Friday is, according to the weather forecast it is also certain that it will remain comparatively warm until mid-December and that winter will not set in.

No white annual accounts: weather forecasts are clear

La Niña is responsible for the higher temperatures, which meteorologists like Jan Schenk from

will prevail again in Bavaria from next week.

The chain reaction triggered by this blows warm air to Europe and also to the Free State.

And probably at irregular intervals until mid-December.

This does not indicate a white annual financial statement.
