(CNN) --

Judge Raymond Dearie, the independent expert overseeing the review of documents seized from former President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago, announced two measures as he works to issue his recommendations to a federal judge on what should be off limits to federal prosecutors.

Dearie is scheduled to hold an in-person hearing with both sides on December 1, as he nears the end of his evaluation of what federal records the government should be able to access between a collection of 22,000 pages seized from the house and the Trump resort in Florida.

  • The independent expert is not satisfied with the progress of the Mar-a-Lago documents: "Where is the meat? I need some meat"

It also plans to consult with the National Archives "regarding its practices and guidance documents regarding the categorization of materials under the Presidential Records Act."

Trump has tried to claim that some of the seized documents belong to him, even if they are from his presidency.

A months-long effort by the National Archives to reclaim documents from Trump's presidency ended in a criminal investigation earlier this year, when boxes containing documents marked classified were returned to the Archives by Trump's team.

  • Supreme Court rejects former President Donald Trump's request to intervene in dispute over Mar-a-Lago documents

Attempts by the federal government after that to reclaim other classified records held by Trump led to the unprecedented raid at Mar-a-Lago in August.

Dearie is only classifying the documents that were found in that search and were not marked as classified.
