Alexander Dobrindt compares the development of the "last generation" with the terrorist group RAF.
In an interview, he defends himself against critical inquiries.
Berlin – More than 30 deaths in Germany can be attributed to the RAF.
Alexander Dobrindt now warns that a "climate RAF" is emerging in this country.
He keeps an eye on the actions of the climate activists of the "last generation".
CSU boss Markus Söder had previously demanded harsh penalties – and scoffed that the activists would like to “stick” in front of the Munich State Chancellery.
In the ARD "Morgenmagazin" Dobrindt defended his harsh words on Tuesday (November 8) - but was exposed to critical questions.
“Climate RAF”?
Dobrindt defends himself in the "Morgenmagazin" - "I can't understand"
Dobrindt felt misunderstood.
"To be honest, I can't understand how you can distance yourself from a sentence that we have to prevent a climate RAF from emerging," he attacked.
A radicalization of the protests has even been announced.
The climate protest actions "can endanger life and limb," he said, not without emphasizing the "can".
That must be punished more severely - it is wrong that the activists "get away" with fines.
For his RAF comparison, Dobrindt sought researchers, specifically the terrorism expert Bettina Röhl, who
recently told
Bild : “The 'last generation' is already on the finish line of the RAF.
Terrorism is always self-portrayal like besmirching Van Gogh, storming roadblocks or pipeline sites."
Röhl is the daughter of Ulrike Meinhof, who once founded the left-wing terrorist RAF.
She said, "With climate activists, this hysterical 'tipping point' to violence and terror can happen very quickly."
Survey: Germans reject "Last Generation" campaigns by majority
The moderator was not entirely convinced.
Why harsher penalties that "not even the AfD" considers necessary - isn't that how you create martyrs?
"They will then become icons," that's how it was with the RAF.
No argument for Dobrindt.
He no longer wanted to "watch".
"The acceptance of these protests tends towards zero," he emphasized.
In fact, the opinion research institute Civey, on behalf of the
Augsburger Allgemeine
, determined clear figures in a survey published on Tuesday: 86 percent of those surveyed found that the activists were damaging the issue of climate protection.
Only seven percent of the participants believed that the actions benefit climate protection, another seven percent were undecided.
There was still the most approval among the voters of the Greens (40 percent) and the Left (34 percent).
Rejection was 97 percent among CDU/CSU voters.

"Last generation" activists: "Protecting the climate is not a crime"
The “Last Generation” had previously published a declaration of solidarity on its website with the headline “Protecting the climate is not a crime”.
The Interventionist Left, which the Office for the Protection of the Constitution lists as an object of observation, is named as the first signatory of dozens of supporter organizations.

The death of a female accident victim in Berlin recently aroused concern.
A fire truck that was supposed to help was stuck in a traffic jam caused by climate activists.
As the
Süddeutsche Zeitung
later reported, the responsible emergency doctor estimated that this did not affect the rescue of the injured cyclist.
According to the report, this came from an application note.
The CDU domestic politician Christoph de Vries now even called for an observation by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution.
“There is no longer any differentiation from left-wing extremist groups.
This delimitation and radicalization within a short period of time is extremely dangerous," said de Vries of the

The Union had recently asked the Greens to distance themselves.
