Wallet without a helmet: buying a motorcycle? Prepare to pay more Israel today

2022-11-08T18:25:52.675Z

The erosion of the roads, the two-wheeled version: the traffic jams caused a great demand for motorcycles, but here too there was a wave of price increases • Some of the reasons: lack of raw materials • An increase in the prices of second-hand motorcycles as well

Add this to the list as well: the traffic jams and the challenging public transportation in Israel caused a great demand for motorcycles, including second-hand motorcycles, and as in the entire automotive field - here, too, prices have risen.

Levy Mi-Ron, VP of Automotive at the Levy Yitzhak Group, told Israel Hayom: "In the motorcycle market, as in the entire automotive sector, since the beginning of the year there have been the same problems, such as a lack of raw materials.

There aren't many chips, and there are factories that don't work at full capacity.

The market is currently characterized by high demand, apparently as a side effect of the shortages created during the corona.

"Even in the field of second-hand motorcycles, we are seeing price increases, due to high demand for used tools. Here, the price increase is less significant than in the car market, it is a difference of no more than 5%."

To the question of what is expected next year, Mi-Ron replied: "It is difficult for me to answer what will happen. In the car market we see a moderation in the demand for second-hand vehicles, especially for vehicles costing more than NIS 180,000."

A culture of leisure

It seems that the two-wheeled world is moving from a culture of "talking crazy" to a culture of leisure.

This transition leads to a change in demand, from single-performance high-end motorcycles to "sane" motorcycles, which are suitable for older riders who started riding at a relatively late age and whose requirements are different.

Motorcycles with a volume of 500 cc, such as the Honda CB500X, which are called "entry level motorcycles" for female motorcycling or transition from scooters to female motorcycling, are becoming more and more in demand.

Of course, there are more and less popular categories in this field as well.

For example - the market for off-road motorcycles of all kinds, with volumes of 125-300 cc, is relatively small, but it is still a product that people want and love.

Regarding the category of electric motorcycles, Mi-Ron says: "As in the automotive world, the whole issue of electricity is just beginning to grow and flourish, so we have no information regarding the marketability of second-hand electric motorcycles. The issue of electric motorcycles is in the making. It makes up 5-4% of the total the market, and it is difficult to know what their condition will be second-hand. There is a desire of the potential buyers to purchase electric vehicles, and we estimate that this will increase with the scooters.

"We see how many of these there are in the Volt, for example. The vast majority of their vehicles are small scooters used for errands. The reason is that there are great savings in the use of electricity. However, we know that the regulator intervenes and puts its hand in our pockets, and in January an increase in vehicle taxation is expected. I appreciate This will also be in the field of motorcycles and scooters."
