Dachau – Dachau has “low dynamics”. A future atlas gives the district a bad report.

Dachau – Dachau has “low dynamics”.

A future atlas gives the district a bad report.

Dachau - Germany's regions are in a location competition for attractive jobs, young families and financially strong companies as trade tax payers.

Every three years, the research company Prognos AG measures the chances of the 400 German administrative districts and urban districts in this competition in order to be able to master current and future growth and change processes in its future atlas.

The current study should give the district of Dachau and those responsible in politics and business several reasons for concern.

The district only occupies 165th place out of 400 districts, and Dachau is only given “slight chances” for the future.

Slid down 111 places

With place 165, the district has slipped down 111 places compared to the future atlas from 2019.

The district of Dachau did best in the area of prosperity and social situation with place 20.

In this sub-area, indicators such as the purchasing power in the district, the municipal debt burden or the crime rate are measured.

In terms of purchasing power, Dachau even ranks 11th in a nationwide comparison.

The researchers put the district of Dachau in 124th place in the area of "demographics", where criteria such as the birth rate, the proportion of young families and population development are measured.

Labor market: Poor rating

In the area of the labor market, criteria such as job density, the unemployment rate, the rate of academics, the proportion of school dropouts or vacant training positions were measured.

Here Dachau was rated 384th out of 400 districts in Germany and was therefore rated very poorly.

The indicator “Proportion of unfilled training places in the period 2018 to 2021” has contributed to this, where Dachau has a value of 22.1 and is ranked 392nd in Germany.

That's 22 places worse than in the previous comparison.

Dachau only occupies 351st place for the criterion “Change in the highly qualified 2018 to 2021”. Dachau still does poorly in terms of job density.

Only 41 percent of the district residents were employed in 2020.

That makes place 340 in Germany.

Indicators such as added value per employee, start-up intensity, patent intensity and corporate competence were measured in the “Competition and Innovation” area.

Dachau was rated 108th here.

Foundations have increased

It is positive that the number of start-ups in the district increased significantly in the years 2018 to 2021 compared to the years 2014 to 2017.

The increase of 14 percent means 38th place in the ranking and thus an improvement of 166 places compared to the 2019 ranking.

Worst rating for growth opportunities

The research company gives Dachau bad marks: as a district with "very little dynamic".

Dachau falls 318 places in this category compared to 2019 and only occupies place 347. While neighboring districts such as Munich or Starnberg are said to have a very high level of dynamics or Fürstenfeldbruck or Ebersberg can at least expect "medium dynamics", Dachau stays when it comes to Opportunities for growth goes, in the worst of all possible ratings.

The district of Munich did best nationwide in the prognosis ranking, followed by the cities of Erlangen and Munich.

Ingolstadt was fourth, Starnberg was ninth.

29 indicators for the district

For the future atlas ranking, the research company Prognos chose a quantitative approach based on objective, statistical data.

Surveys and discussions with politics and business were deliberately avoided in order to determine their subjective assessments (e.g. on the attractiveness of the location, satisfaction, quality of life).

The index is based on a total of 29 macro- and socio-economic indicators from the four areas of demography, labor market, competition and innovation, and prosperity and social situation.

The 29 indicators can also be divided into strength and dynamic indicators.

The strength indicators provide information about the current situation (location strength of a district/an independent city).

The dynamic indicators show how the district/independent city has developed over time.

Hi

Comment: location policy is a matter for the boss

111 places worse than in 2019!

The district of Dachau is located in one of the strongest economic regions in Germany, but is not rated very positively in the future atlas as far as the future is concerned.

Although the citizens of Dachau and the surrounding communities (still) have a lot of money in their pockets that they can spend, the business people in the district town can only partially lure the wealthy residents of the region into their shops.

The job market in the district is not looking good at all, training positions cannot be filled, and Dachau does not appear to be of any interest to highly qualified workers.

The study should be an indication to politicians that location policy is important - and should be a matter for the boss.

However, since - hopefully qualified - business promoters in the city and district still have to overcome hierarchical levels if they want to address their issues to the mayor or district administrator, the less than optimistic future forecast - "slight chances" - could well become reality.
