The actions of the climate movement "Last Generation" are heating up tempers.

The Free State's crackdown is now attracting just as much attention - for many, that's going too far.

Munich - They are currently on everyone's lips: the climate activists of the group "Last Generation".

With their actions, such as daubing paintings, blocking traffic or even disrupting air traffic at Amsterdam Airport, the mostly young people are attracting a lot of attention for their cause: a radical rethinking of politics in the fight against climate change.

There have also been several actions in Munich recently, with the most active sticking themselves to the street at Stachus and thus blocking the artery in the heart of Munich.

Climate protests: activists from Munich in custody - tough reactions on Twitter

For some of the activists, the protests ended behind bars.

The police recently announced that a total of 18 activists were in custody in Stadelheim.

Among them was Maria Braun, who was only 18 years old.

The Free State sometimes cracks down on the protesters, sometimes 30 days of detention can follow such protests.

"The length of detention is often incomprehensible to us," says Lilly Schubert from the "Last Generation".

The procedure usually goes like this: After the police have removed the taped people from the street, they are taken to a police station.

Then it's time to wait at the detention center to see if the police will apply for custody.

Last generation: incomprehension after harsh reactions

The sometimes harsh crackdown is met with resentment by many people.

Opinions differ greatly on Twitter, for many the actions are commendable, others are bothered by them.

For example, one user writes: “In Munich, a student runs into the university completely legally with a blank gun.

For "self-protection" and triggers a large-scale police operation." (A young man had arranged for a large-scale operation at the LMU).

And further: “If climate activists stick to the street, they will be put in preventive detention.

I don't have to understand it, right?" Another says: "Anyone who might be wondering why people in Bavaria just go to jail for 30 days: Here you can easily earn something with mask deals, fake doctoral theses, million-dollar projects in the sand or simply treat yourself to a few deportations on B-Day",

The CSU has already clearly stated its position regarding the protesters.

The statement by Alexander Dobrindt, who described the group as “Climate RAF” and which should be “prevented”, attracted the most attention.

One can assume that the debate about the "last generation" is far from over, but the question of how to solve climate change is in full swing: currently at the world climate conference in Egypt.
