16 people at The Verandah in Repulse Bay were suspected of food poisoning after eating raw oysters and 11 people had to seek medical attention

He also ate raw oysters, and then developed symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and dizziness. 11 of them have sought medical attention and do not need to be hospitalized.

All patients are in stable condition.

The CHP urges the public to maintain personal, food and environmental hygiene to prevent food-borne diseases.


Suspected food poisoning cases emerged after 16 people attended a dinner at The Verandah Terrace Restaurant in Repulse Bay.

The cases involved eight men and eight women, aged between 28 and 39.

They attended a dinner at The Verandah Terrace Restaurant in Repulse Bay on the 6th of this month and developed abdominal pain, diarrhea, dizziness, weakness, headache, nausea, palpitations and vomiting about 13 to 52 hours later.

It is understood that they had eaten raw oysters.

Eleven of those affected have sought medical attention and do not require hospitalization.

All patients are in stable condition.

The CHP reminds that to prevent food-borne diseases, members of the public should always maintain personal, food and environmental hygiene:

- When eating out, patronize reliable and licensed restaurants


- Avoid raw seafood


- Choose cold cuts carefully, including sashimi, sushi and oysters from buffets


- When eating hot pot or barbecue, make sure the food is thoroughly cooked before


eating During cooking, handle carefully and separate raw and cooked food thoroughly


- use two sets of chopsticks and utensils to handle raw and cooked food separately


- do not patronize unlicensed food stalls


- drink boiled water


- do not try to use salt, vinegar , alcohol and Japanese wasabi are sterilizing, because none of them have sterilizing effect


- and wash hands before eating and after going to the toilet
