Christian Pulisic leads a young United States World Cup squad to Qatar and is determined to prove he belongs on soccer's biggest stage four years after failing to qualify for the World Cup in Russia.
Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie was called up despite lingering concerns about a thigh injury, along with goalkeeper Matt Turner, Lille striker Tim Weah and Inter Miami defender DeAndre Yedlin.

"This is the payback tour, if you want to call it that," Yedlin said.
A 2-0 loss to Japan and a goalless draw against Saudi Arabia, which is much lower in the world rankings, are the results the United States recorded ahead of its World Cup debut against Wales on November 21.
The United States will also face England and Iran in Group B.

"Final roster decisions are always difficult and we appreciate the contributions of everyone who helped us get to this point. We believe we have a talented group, a strong team spirit and one that is ready to compete," said the director. Technician Gregg Berhalter.

"It's a bit underestimated how this young group has developed, how this program has developed, we pretty much started with a new group of players in 2018 and now we're back in the World Cup," he said.
Pulisic is the charismatic face of a nation eager to spark soccer enthusiasm among baseball and basketball's most interested fans four years before the United States co-hosts the World Cup with Canada and Mexico.
But there was no lack of vigor among American fans on Wednesday, when VIPs packed a hip Brooklyn concert hall for the call-up announcement.
They are the second youngest team the United States has sent to a World Cup with an average age of 25.
"We have a lot of good experiences between us. All I see is hunger, determination, intensity and energy," said Fulham defender Antonee Robinson.
