For the coming New Year's Eve, the Berlin police and the Senate want to ban fireworks and firecrackers in several areas for security reasons.
According to the current status, three so-called firecracker ban zones are planned, the Senate Interior Administration announced.
As in previous years, this is about Alexanderplatz and the so-called Steinmetzkiez in Schöneberg near Pallasstraße.
Berlin - In addition, the fireworks should also be banned in some streets in Alt-Moabit.
Security was given as the reason for the ban.
Groups of young people used to gather in certain places on New Year's Eve, attacking police officers and firefighters with fireworks and throwing bottles.
In 2019, the Senate issued no-gun zones for the first time, set up barriers and posted hundreds of police officers there on New Year's Eve to control access.
Further bans due to the corona pandemic, as in the past two years, are currently not planned, it said.
