The fiber optic expansion in Starnberg has picked up speed.

After lines had already been laid in the commercial area around Moosstrasse and Petersbrunner Strasse in the past few weeks, there are now a whole series of construction sites in the city center.

Starnberg - Starnberg's city center is magenta - at least on the map that Deutsche Telekom sent with its explanations on the current fiber optic expansion.

"Currently, the expansion in the core area of Starnberg for around 5000 households is underway," explains spokesman Dr.

Markus Jodl on this.

Roughly speaking, this core area is bordered by Osswaldstrasse and Bozener Strasse to the north, the railway line and Strandbadstrasse to the east, Nepomukweg and Bahnhofplatz to the south, and Bahnhofstrasse and Zeppelin Promenade to the west.

Especially in the immediate city center, in the area of Ludwigstraße/Maximilianstraße/Bahnhofplatz, the many small and large construction sites are currently evident - including minor impairments for pedestrians and the lack of parking spaces.

And the measures are just the beginning for a large-scale expansion with lines that are intended to bring high-speed Internet to homes in the future.

"Next year, the expansion will continue north of Hanfelder Strasse," explains the Telekom spokesman when asked by Starnberger Merkur.

"Then, over the next few years, the outdoor areas will also be gradually excluded." Overall, Jodl speaks of 14,200 households and businesses in Starnberg that are to be connected to the fiber optic network.

There is talk of 500 kilometers of fiber optics,

Customers can choose between two basic alternatives.

"The self-sufficient expansion is already underway," says Jodl.

Anyone who now gives Telekom their approval for a house connection will get this connection free of charge, even if they don't book a tariff immediately.

Interested parties can find out more on the website www.telekom.de/glasfaser.

In addition, Telekom is also building an open network.

"In addition to Telekom, other content providers will also be able to use the new network," explains Jodl and promises: "Customers have a free choice."

The expansion is generally carried out using the civil engineering method, i.e. by digging up, laying the lines and closing the construction site.

Fiber optics had only been laid in the commercial area around Moosstrasse and Petersbrunner Strasse in the past few weeks.

This was a joint project of the two companies Vodafone and Deutscheglas fiber.

A flush drilling method was also used there at the intersection of Gautinger Straße/Leutstettener Straße/Petersbrunner Straße (we reported).

In order not to have to dig up the newly created crossing area again, the lines were pulled more or less horizontally under the roadway through a previously drilled channel.
