2022-11-11T14:51:23.910Z

The new Asus cell phone puts up an impressive high performance without competitors, but the high price tag may deter even the devout mobile gamers

The world of traditional gaming, which is on a meteoric rise, was mainly divided into PC players and console players.

But in recent years, the world of mobile gaming is gaining more and more momentum, especially in light of its availability and accessibility.

Over 2 billion people worldwide play games on their phones, from games like Candy Crush to PUBG MOBILE.

So it's true, there are people who will say that it's not really gaming, but the constant rise of the field shows otherwise.

It's not for nothing that more and more companies are trying to enter this market when ASUS recently unveiled the ROG Phone 6, which sets a different standard, starting from the packaging the device comes with.

One of them came into our hands and we went to check it out.

The Asus phone series arrived in the world at the end of 2018 and since then has been refreshed once or twice a year, with an innovative design and especially more impressive data.

So is the ROG 6, which took the good things from its previous generation, the ROG 5, and upgraded them.

Let's start with his data which, to put it mildly, is simply monstrous.

It has a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, the upgraded version of Qualcomm's flagship processor that offers improved performance.

The device can be purchased in several RAM categories, of 12,8 and 16 gigabytes, while with a little more financial investment you can buy the pro version, which has 18 gigabytes of memory.

Along with the RAM, the device also has several levels of storage memory: 128 or 256 gigabytes, while the upgraded Pro version has 512GB.

This is simply enormous data for a mobile device, at such a level that some of you may not even use it to the end, unless you are one of those who like to load applications and games on the device.

The screen of the ROG PHONE 6 is 6.78 inches AMOLED Full HD that supports a refresh rate of up to 165 Hz.

The screen looks very impressive, and it also works really fast whether it is the heaviest games or when it comes to typing, switching between menus, and in general the actions that can be performed on the device.

The screen itself is bright and bright with 800 nits in standard mode and 1,200 at peak, meaning that viewing the device is easy even in bright sunlight.

With a resolution of 1080X2448 it is not the sharpest screen, but it does provide accurate colors with great contrast and a lot of customization options in the settings.

Design: Asus continues to demonstrate superiority

In terms of design, it can be said that Asus brings some kind of innovation.

The back panel is beautiful and designed with RGB lights, and the Pro model even has an OLED screen on which you can display different visuals depending on what you're doing with the phone.

For example if we charge it, the strip will show the charging progress, in addition it also shows incoming calls and other information.

A great feature, and there really isn't a person who hasn't run into me by chance with the device and asked about this screen.

There are dedicated buttons on both ends of the screen that act like triggers on a regular console remote, which is very useful in games.

In addition, the device includes two USB-C ports, one at the base and another on the left side, this is so that you can comfortably charge it while playing, or while it is connected to one of the auxiliary accessories.

In addition, there is also a 3.5 mm headphone jack, for those who still like to use wired headphones. In addition, there are some other goodies such as a fingerprint scanner, two stereo speakers, support for NFC and Bluetooth 5.2.

Operating System

Apart from the external design, the Android 12 operating system is in a design that can be found on Google's Pixel devices, but ASUS ZEN UI and ROG UI skins can be downloaded.

The big changes come when you switch to X-MODE, which is dedicated to games.

When it is activated, the performance of the device improves and the distracting effect of the notifications we receive can be minimized.

Another nice addition is the companion app Armory Crate, which offers a wide range of customization options, and even doubles as a game library from which you can download games.

The cooling system of the ROG PHONE 6 does a good job at all, but after a few hours of playing the device becomes complex, for this purpose they also provide an accessory, the AeroActive Cooler 6, an external fan that will take care of cooling your device and along the way will also add some buttons , but this involves an additional payment of course.

Battery life

Moving on to the battery, the ROG Phone 6 benefits from one of the most powerful batteries available with a capacity of 6,0000 mAh.

Although there is no option for wireless charging, with the kit you are provided with a 65W fast charger, which is able to perform a full charge in about 45 minutes.

If you were wondering how long the battery lasts then of course it depends on how you use the device, if your needs are only a phone then it can last a very long time, with the percentages dropping by 80 percent after a little over 16 hours with the screen on.

It's just crazy.

Using games and the high-performance X-MODE of the phone lowers the percentages faster, but even after many hours of playing the mobile versions of PUBG, Apex Legends or Call of Duty I did not find myself completely draining the battery.

the camera

Of course, nowadays you can't talk about a phone without talking about its cameras.

True, in this device they are quite a minor issue, but nevertheless it is equipped with an array of three rear cameras, the main one with 50 megapixels, next to it is a 13 megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 5 megapixel macro camera.

The front camera, known as the selfie camera, has 12 megapixels.

It can be said that the quality of the photos that come out on the ROG Phone 6 are very good, but they won't leave you speechless.

At least in good lighting conditions, in other situations a little less but this is definitely not the purpose of the device.

In conclusion

If you are not a gamer who regularly plays on your cell phone, the ROG Phone 6 will probably be less suitable for you.

You can find devices on the market that are more suitable for everyday use, such as photography for example.

In the category of gaming phones it is undoubtedly the best, and as a casual cell phone that uses basic applications it is above and beyond.

The device is powerful and its performance is adapted like a glove to games, and you can definitely see the thought Asus did, but the price is not cheap and that should be taken into account.

The base price is 4,599 NIS, which of course increases depending on the memory you have chosen for the device. The Pro model costs about 5,499 NIS and we did not talk about the fan which costs another few hundred shekels, so for the whole package you will have to part with a very high amount.

There is no doubt that it will upgrade your gaming experience, but it is not certain that it is worth the financial investment involved.

But if you are a devoted mobile player, you probably won't find any competitors.
