Two young sisters died Thursday night after falling into a drain while going to a concert in Mexico City.
Witnesses assured the Milenio newspaper that the women were on their way to the Palacio de los Deportes to see the Zoé group, but they fell into the drain without a lid and it was impossible to rescue them immediately.
The drain is located in the pedestrian crossing over the Río de la Piedad and Añil viaduct, in the Granjas México Poniente neighborhood of the Iztacalco mayor's office, in an unlit area, according to the newspaper El País.
The women, aged 16 and 23, were with their father.
First she fell to the bottom of her and when the other tried to help her she also collapsed, according to the cited media.
Her father threw a rope but was unable to rescue them, according to El Universal.
Experts from the Prosecutor's Office later removed their bodies from the drain.
The mother went to the scene of the accident and, crying, lamented: "They are my two daughters, the only ones I have," according to local media.
“If she had known, she would not have bought their tickets,” she added, according to what journalist Jorge Becerril published on his Twitter account.
