The street artist brings the Impressionists back to life on the walls of the Val-d'Oisian city. After Monet this summer, the giant portrait of the brothers

One more.

C125 is back in Argenteuil.

Between Thursday November 10 and Friday November 11, the street artist created a fresco on the wall of a public housing residence on rue de la Liberté.

It represents the painter Gustave Caillebotte, one of the pioneers of the Impressionist movement and his brother Martial, photographer, musician and composer.

This new work is part of a whole.

It continues the work already carried out in the city by C215 (Christian Guémy of his real name), this summer, on a wall at the corner of rue Paul-Vaillant-Couturier and avenue Gabriel-Péri, in September.

A giant portrait of the impressionist painter, Claude Monet, commissioned by the city when the museum was opened to the public, which was created in the house he occupied from 1874 to 1878.

Offer an open-air museum

Gustave Caillebotte also marked the history of Argenteuil.

He owned a house in Petit Gennevilliers, on the opposite bank of the Seine, from 1881. He lived there from 1886 until his death in 1894. The painter painted landscapes of Argenteuil there on several occasions.

Stéphanie Chardeau, great-great-granddaughter of Martial Caillebotte, provided the photo that was used to create the fresco.

"It's a family photo that must date from 1886 or 1887," says the one who is at the head of the Caillebotteri gallery, of which C215 is the main artist.

The social landlord AB habitat is a partner in this project, which is part of the open-air museum project wanted by the municipality.

In 2021, a first fresco was commissioned from Zloty, a pioneering street art artist who lived in Argenteuil for a long time.

Another order from the city to C215 should follow.

This time, it will be a question of making a portrait of the painter Berthe Morisot, another figure of Impressionism.
