The start of 2023 should be more colorful and self-determined than in recent years.
Criticism comes from the police union.
Berlin – The turn of the year in recent years has been marked by the corona pandemic and far-reaching bans.
This is expected to change on New Year's Eve 2022, as summarized by fr.de.
Criticism of the return to the old freedoms comes primarily from the ranks of the police.
"Finally a real New Year's Eve again," says the
Association of the Pyrotechnic Industry (VPI).
The two-year forced break hit the industry hard.
Klaus Gotzen, Managing Director of the VPI, expressed concern shortly before New Year's Eve 2020 as to whether the industry would survive the bans at all.
New Year's Eve 2022: Manufacturers are happy to have survived the crisis
At the turn of the year 2022/2023, the dry spell for the industry seems to be over for the time being.
Many cities allow firecrackers and fireworks to be set off on New Year's Eve.
A survey by the
German Press Agency (dpa
) in Baden-Württemberg showed that there will be no general ban on firecrackers in most cities.
In some cities, such as Tübingen, there are fireworks ban zones for old towns or other areas that are particularly worthy of protection.
The fact that it is forbidden to set off fireworks in individual areas was not uncommon for the first Corona New Year's Eve in 2020 either.
In Tübingen, the ban in the old town has existed since the turn of the year 2009/2010.
Fireworks at the turn of the year 2022/2023: Ministry of the Interior advocates firecrackers and the like
The police union (GdP)
is critical of
the fact that citizens will again be given the freedom to start the new year with private fireworks this year .
This even calls for deep cuts in legislation in order to ban this again.
"The trade unionist called on the conference of interior ministers and Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) to address this issue in a timely manner," the union statement said.

In the meantime, Nancy Faeser and the Ministry of the Interior have positioned themselves clearly.
The demand for a general ban on private fireworks was rejected by the ministry.
The reason for the bans in recent years was solely the Corona situation, as a spokeswoman told the
dpa
on Wednesday.
The deputy chairman of the FDP parliamentary group, Konstantin Kuhle, confirmed the view of the Ministry of the Interior.
The ban must be dropped because the reason is no longer given, "otherwise the state will lose its credibility".
In addition, "the annual fireworks display is an important tradition at the turn of the year for many people," says Kuhle.

Fireworks from Germany: The manufacturers want to revolutionize the market
"Germany's fireworks producers are looking to the future with hope," writes the
VPI
on its website.
The industry makes more than 90 percent of its sales in the days leading up to New Year’s Eve.
In recent years, manufacturers have faced “the greatest economic challenge in their more than 60-year history” due to the bans.
According to their own statements, the manufacturers used the two-year forced break to further develop their products.
According to the VPI
, the result should be less plastic, less CO₂ emissions and fireworks made from biodegradable materials
.
It remains to be seen whether the new year will start as quietly as 2022.
