A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck off central Japan on Monday (November 14th), rocking Tokyo and other cities, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), but no tsunami warning was issued.
The epicenter of the quake, which occurred at 5:09 p.m. (0809 GMT), was located off Mie County at a depth of about 350 kilometers, the JMA said.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) also rated the magnitude of the quake at 6.1.
No damage or injuries have been reported so far and no anomalies have been detected at the Fukushima nuclear power plant (northeast), which was hit by a devastating tsunami in 2011, causing a serious nuclear disaster, according to the chain of NHK public television.
The areas of Fukushima and Ibaraki, north of Tokyo, suffered the strongest tremors on the Japanese seismic scale (4 out of 7), although these areas are hundreds of kilometers from the epicenter.
Shinkansen bullet trains and the Tokyo Metro were briefly halted after the quake but have since resumed.
