ALD surfs on new mobility

2022-11-14T15:57:53.610Z

TREND The rental company is extending its skills to alternative forms of mobility and is launching a long-term rental offer for used vehicles.

A few figures allow us to measure the weight of long-term leasing and its players in the automotive market.

A subsidiary of Société Générale, ALD Automotive managed and financed 1.45 million vehicles in August 2022, i.e. growth of 5.4% compared to June 2021. The average margin achieved per used vehicle resold reached 3,212 euros against 740 euros in the first half of 2021. Finally, its net income stood at 606 million euros, a jump of 72% compared to the first half of 2021.

Essential in the economic model of large French banks such as Société Générale or BNP Paribas with Arval, long-term leasing has already conquered large companies, is becoming more democratic with SMEs and VSEs and is now of interest to individuals.

Today, ALD teams must meet several challenges.

First of them: the electrification of fleets is accelerating.

During the first half of 2022, alternative engines represented 63% of the lessor's road trips.

Vehicles with rechargeable batteries alone (100% electric and hybrid) mobilized 33% of its orders over the same period.

“Manufacturers give preference to electric when shortages hit thermal.

Incentive taxation also pleads in favor of this technology”

, observes Gilles Bellemère, Managing Director.

The law also motivates companies since fleets of more than 100 vehicles will have to renew half of their thermal vehicle fleet from 2030. In 2035, they will have to have switched to all-electric.

To help its customers take the plunge, ALD has deployed a specialized unit to advise and support its customers.

From “car policy” to “mobility policy”

According to an OpinionWay survey carried out in June 2022 on behalf of Ecomob.club, an association of decision-makers united around mobility, 54% of companies have already implemented or are in the process of taking action to comply with the orientation law on mobility (LOM).

68% of them have set up the sustainable mobility package (FMD) or plan to do so.

In this context, from a logic of vehicle financing and management, ALD is expanding its areas of intervention to mobility as a whole: public transport, shared bicycles, car sharing, electric scooters, hybrid bikes, etc.

“Car policy” becomes “mobility policy”.

Since last April, ALD has been offering a dedicated solution to all company employees, whether or not they are eligible for a vehicle.

It brings together a centralized management platform for the definition and control of budgets and expenses, a report on CO2 emissions and a team of support specialists.

For employees, the Société Générale subsidiary provides a payment card dedicated to mobility, a mobile application for planning multimodal journeys and an interface for managing the mobility budget on the internet.
